water-resistant quad build

by IcyBird | February 18, 2014 | (0) Posted in How To

about a week ago i saw a picture of a quad that flitetest had built, the main body was constructed out of a plastic tool box. so that gave me the idea to build a smaller version or concept of the idea, i came up with this, :)

i went to king supers and picked up one of these maker holding bins, they were only about $1.00 each. i then used half inch square wooden dowels to construct the booms, as you an see i used a slight 30 degree angle so my props would not be so close to each other.

just installed the motors(1100 kv) and 30 amp esc, i drilled a hole for the esc leads to pass through

just added some bottem supports to make the body stronger and keep it from flexing

now what i did with the fpv camera to protect it from water is unscrewd the lense and used it as a bolt to screw into a drillded hole in the frount of the quad.

i then cleaned up all the esc leads and sodderd them to a parralel connecter to house two small batterys, i then took some dollar tree foam and glued that over the escs (i have way bigger escs than i need so they are very cool) and installed the control board (cheap multiwii $20) and velcrow for battery and receivers etc.

finally i threw some crude landing gear on and charged my batterys. took only 2 days (a few hours each day) to throw together and is one of the nicest quads i have built ( i dont build very nice quads often lol)

thanks for reading!

Really cool idea, I have been thinking about building a quad for awhile. Ordered some parts from HK. Now I think I know which direction to go in making one. Thanks.

That is awesome and has me thinking. Let us know how it does, cooling would be my only worry even with larger ESC's, sun loading on the box, battery, flight controller etc. It is a great design imo, simple and if the heat is no issue should be awesome.

Thanks for the idea..... Please update as you get it in the air.
