Anti-Drone Laws - Viewer Response

by FliteTest | February 18, 2013 | (20) Posted in News

Chad and David answer questions about the anti-drone laws, upcoming projects, tips about propellers and more!

We decided to give Josh and Josh a week off and answer some of popular questions that we've received recently, and give you an update on some future projects.

We've had a crazy week with airplanes catching on fire and video footage getting deleted.

Our launch of the Speed Build Kits went great! So much so, that we ran out of foam board and the orders are on back order. We're working to get inventory back, as well as continuing to add new items to the web store. So be sure to check it out!

Ant-Drone laws have been in the news lately, and it could really affect our hobby!  We encourage you to be involved in events and groups in your area to help keep the FPV hobby going.

Despite going swimming in a pool, this GoPro is still going strong!  We've gone through a lot of GoPro camera's, they're great! But the GoPro Hero 3 has still got it's issues and shouldn't be trusted as an FPV camera, we're not sure when GoPro will get things fixed.

Our hot glue gun finally died. After 3 1/2 years of hard work the thing finally stopped.

With the new glue gun we also picked up this cool silicon mat that keeps the glue (or anything else for that matter) from sticking to it.

We've got a lot of great projects planned for the very near future!  Stay tuned and thanks for all of your support.

In the meantime, check out some of these great articles:

I have officially gone Pavlov now that you brought these new planes to the foreground. It looks like the Cruiser is running dual NTM "blender" motors. I like to begin with your recommendations then start screwing with various gear after seeing how it was intended. I know you said you didn't want to go into detail, but as this motor is now out of stock in the US warehouse, if I do need to get a second I would would like to get a jump on the three week global wait.

I am glad you are adding more to the store; even though I have been a popsicle stick horn kind of guy up 'til now, I just ordered 40 horns and will buy whatever you put up for sale if it keeps you guys doing what you do. A pack of bamboo skewers at a 200% markup? Yep, I'll buy it. Thanks for all you do.

Some comments on the Q&A. Great show. I like the YouTube shows,
FPV: the AMA has a stream on it with changes going on as states and cities go insane about "drones" and FPV. You may want to get some input from them.
3d printer: some of your parts may be made on a 3D printer as prototypes.
New models: Just waiting, now I know to watch the back wall.

I really hope the Anti Drone laws don't effect FPV in the US. If they do, then I'm sure Australia will follow the US :'(

future episode questions: Saw a guy on Youtube using an X8, a cell phone and a telemetry module. He didn't explain much about why, only the technical aspects of hooking up. Explaining what he was doing would be great.

Second question: If I can manage to get good long distance video signal, how to I get good long distance radio signal to match?

Third question: Can I route video from a single HD camera through two outputs: one clean and one with OSD overlay?

Fourth Question: Does anybody make a zoom-able camera or a night vision camera (or both) for FPV use?

Thank you guys for getting the beginner into the hobby and showing a veteran flyer a fun way to fly and not have $600 in a ship.
FPV Will go down if we do nothing. When you see a stupid video report it get off the air.it make us all look bad.
Looking forward to the new kits to build.I had to build 2 to get all the procures through my thick head, like cutting the control services on the wrong side.silly mistakes.Feeling much better now...

Heard today that the Department of Homeland Security has been authorized to request bids for 30,000 (that's not a typo, it's really 30K) drones. They are planning on using them here, over the US, to "keep us secure". I don't know about anyone else, but the thought of these drones watching us is not making me feel secure.
I guess we may now know why states are beginning to introduce laws banning FPV--- the air traffic with all those drones (600 per state!) will be ridiculous.

Also you could have an auction or something for the hot glue gun. Or make a 'memories' showcase of broken things that won't work like old gopros and the glue gun.

I am just getting back into the R.C. hobbies because of the fpv technology. I wonder if they will let us have hot glue guns in prison ? AND AND I actually seen that silicon mat at my local Wal-Mart and almost got one but I wasnt sure how well it works till now thx.

What about submitting a bloopers/failed video. Explanations on failures can still help us out here in the field.

Awesome! can't wait for the new swappables. How's bixler coming on the T-copter? I designed a rough draft of one this past weekend. Wish I could fly FPV, but I can't because I don't have anyone that is readily availiable as a spotter. Oh well maybe in a few years right?
