At the risk of taking heat from those of you with the knack for building beautiful, accurate, period-correct replications - this is not that kind of build. This was conceived for our Baby Blender build, and as such it reflects the inexpensive approach to the build.
While
waiting for the glue to dry ( sorry Dave, we don't always use hot-glue)
a piece of coroplast caught my eye. Coroplast (called coroflute down
under) is a corrugated plastic sheet we sometimes use for quick-build
elevators and rudders. It is often used in making signage as it lasts
much longer than its cardboard cousin.
What we did was simply roll a piece onto itself and add some dowels. Not bad from a distance. Here are our steps:
- Cut the item roughly as shown. This represents 9 flutes.
- Split five flutes down the middle leaving the remaining 4 as is.
- Trim the first rib on each end to present a flat area for gluing.
- Rotate each flute evenly, then add a dab of superglue to secure.
- Paint as needed.
- Color two short scrap pieces of dowel with a red marker and secure.
- Add to your model.
Great Job!
