TITAN Tricopter First Time FPV!

by Zpack | September 30, 2013 | (0) Posted in Just Fun

I finally got my FPV gear delivered this weekend! This video is from my 4th or 5th flight. I knew it would be fun but this just blew my mind! I got on HK right after shooting this and ordered more batteries :-)

So it’s my first experience with FPV and I have a lot of improving to do; specifically, keeping the tail tracking correctly. I thought I was pretty good at that already but I guess it’s harder to tell when flying line of sight. Also, you can probably tell in the video that I usually opt to go over an obstacle rather than under it, I feel like I need to duck every time a go under a low branch! I also really need to take the time to properly tune the KK2 board; I just can’t seem to find the sweet spot. My MultiWii, while less convenient, was way easier to get tuned. The KK2 seems more sensitive to vibration than the MultiWii as well, and I’m pretty lazy when it comes to balancing props :-P

I'm totally hooked! Here's my setup:

*TITAN Tricopter Frame with:

   -Carbon hybrid booms

   -GoPro camera mount

*KK2 flight controller with 1.6 firmware (that's not properly tuned)

*SimonK flashed HK F30A ESCs

*NTM Propdrive 1350kv motors (that are not balanced)

*8x4.5 HK slow fly props (ALSO not balanced)

*Nano-Tech 2200mAh 4s battery

*Spektrum dx8 Tx with AR600 Rx

*Fatshark PredatorV2 RTF FPV kit

*GoPro Hero 3

We’re on Facebook, check it out!

Here are my KK2.0 settings, they are by no means perfect but they are working OK. Note that my flying style is fast acro. The v1.6 firmware is highly recommended; self-level is vastly improved over v1.2

PI Settings for Roll/Pitch/yaw:
P gain: 50
P limit: 50
I gain: 25
I limit: 20

Stick scaling (VERY sensitive, I am also using 35% expo on my radio):
Roll: 125
Pitch: 125
Yaw: 100
Throttle: 90

Auto level settings:
P gain: 100
P limit: 10

Would an APM 2.5 fit underneath the electronics cover?

It definitely will fit without the plastic housing, however I don't know what the APM 2.5 dimensions are with the plastic housing, so I can't say for sure. The APM 2.5 is on my list of future upgrades, I think that's what I'll use for my new TITIAN Y6 design...

with the 2200 + you fpv gear what flight times are you achieving?

I'm only getting about 8min, but I'm running between 75-100% throttle most of the time. I've since switched to the 1200kv NTM motors and those are a bit more efficient, I'm also building a TITAN with DT750s to see how much time I can squeeze out of a 3s.
