TITAN Tricopter and a FIREBALL CANNON!

by Zpack | July 22, 2013 | (24) Posted in Just Fun

Friend: “So what did you guys do for the 4th?”

Me: “Ohh, you know; the usual…”

This is my fireball cannon, don’t ask how to build one because it's a secret (and I don’t want anyone killing themselves and/or setting the world on fire). Basically it uses highly compressed air in an accumulator that is released through a high-flow fast-acting valve into a chamber containing flammable liquid, this atomizes the liquid very quickly and efficiently which allows for optimal fuel-air mixture and high-speed flame front propagation…. In layman’s terms: you flip switch; it go boom :-)

This year I used it as an opportunity to test out the new camera platform for the TITAN Tricopter. Watch the video to see for yourself how it worked:

The TITAN Tricopter kit is available now at www.fortisairframes.com

Isn't the Earth poluted enough? Why turning a clean hobby in something so damaging?

Clean hobby? I'm pretty sure a lot of the electronics are made in China by factories that pollute with very little federal limitations. Which are then shipped half way around the globe. Not to mention how bad foam is in landfills and you can't recycle it. A few fireballs is nothing compared to the pollution created just for a single battery to be made.

exept that batteries do have some use and are reusable. In contrary I don't see the point of burning fuel for fun (yeah, I don't like fireworks neither!). Beside that the tri looks awesome, I just think it could have a better use.

Woah woah woah. You think lighting a flame for a short burst of time is worse than the chinese factories that make very part that is on that tricopter?? You, my friend, are a silly tree hugger.

Ooookay everybody let's settle down... Chuck's entitled to his opinion. My argument is that it is no worse than a real fireworks display, and if you don't like those, well, I honestly don't know how to respond to that...

try to nozzle the spray outward into an umbrella shape and then wait for it to settle just a bit before you ignite it. Makes a really good whoooomp sound. Don't stand too close and make sure the windows of the house are open so they don't break.

I have been doing some experiments with nozzles (there are a couple of shots that you can see the narrow vertical column made by changing the restriction). I'm planning on trying something like you suggest next 4th :-)

Off the hook!

That long lasting smoke ring was amazing.

And for some reason I expected the tri to try to do the dolphin and the air ring trick. . . :)

That smoke ring would fool some people into thinking it's some kind of UFO!

It was actually free, so to speak. I built out of parts I had laying around in my garage- although if you had to buy all the parts new it would probably cost you a couple hundred bucks

Just a word of advisory, not sure of the actual risks involved but the black smoke from a result of the fireball is pure carbon, it is conductive and if it ended up in the wrong places could cause a FC/ESC failure.
