AVRO aerobatics!

I've been a bit precious with this plane, avoiding too much adventurous flying until I got more comfortable with the way it handled. Now I'm getting the hang of things, it was time to push myself a bit harder.

Two mistakes high, and no zoom on my camera, so apologies for the small plane in the distance footage.

I'll admit I had a thing about avoiding building biplanes early-on in my build career - twice as many wings to build! But now, I have to admit it's a good way to pack a lot of wing area into a small space. The larger top wing on the AVRO (840mm) is the length of an A2 sheet of foam board, which is the size I can buy in the UK, so it's a very economical build. The very compact nature of the plane also means it can turn on a sixpence (a bit like a dime).

One thing I'm learning about very slow flying is to switch to high rates. If you look at my landings, I made a few approach errors because I ran out of control at the slower flying speeds. On this plane full up-elevator on low rates does nothing at those speeds, which makes it almost impossible to flare. All part of the learning curve!

Cheers, alibopo :)

That was cool, I really liked how you kept on going after all the failed attempts of landing the plane. and the slow flying was really cool too.
-Nice job, Keep it up!

OUch! That's my pride dented :) For some reason the local Parks Department hasn't cut the grass on the field I fly on for weeks. It's up at calf height in some places! I'd need 6 inch wheels to have any chance... Honest guv'nor! Thanks for the comment. alibopo :)
