Nice discovery! I imagine this works with both 'gender' combinations of 3.5mm bullet to XT60. No big deal, but from my engineering perspective Hobby King seem to have got the paired male/female component labelling correct. The actual current carrying connectors and not the housing are what this naming convention is based on. (Males are the ones with a pin or pins that fit into a socket or sockets.) Though it is confusing, as the outer housing on the XT60 seems to operate in the opposite way. Regarding the tip - to avoid any 'problems' during connection I suggest you completely sleeve the 'female' bullet connectors (the ones like a tube with the hole in the middle that the pin fits into) with appropriately coloured red and black heat shrink. (Going the other way is probably not as critical.) Plus, because you're not using the matching XT60 'shaped connector' to automatically keep you right on polarity (it only fits one way), I suggest you colour half the XT60 connector with black or red (or both) permanent marker to make sure you get it right every time. Much less likely to get any nasty frying of circuits that don't have polarity protection. Cheers.
