RcPowers F-35 v2 !!!!!!

by twan1997 | July 2, 2013 | (0) Posted in Just Fun

Spent about 3 days in total building this beauty out of depron using only hotglue, simply because I find epoxy hard to work with....plus it smells bad...and as you can see, My working room is just too clean :p

So I did a maiden flight with elevator and aileron only and found that in my flying field, the Rudders are NEEDED, just because the plane gets stuck on the turns too often and I need something to kick that tail around.....but otherwise, had plenty of power with a Turnigy 2218H-2100Kv motor and a 6x5.5 prop with a 50A ESC, I might step it down to 6x4 or 6x5 to get a longer flight time out of it.

So after a somewhat successful maiden flight (meaning it came back in more less one piece) I decided to give it a paint job, and I dont know what other people think, but to me, it seems nice considering this is the first time I painted a Plane and Im only 15
I'll install rudders on it when I finally finish my exams and Video the flight :D
Some more detailed specs:
Motor: Turnigy H2218-2100kv (very similar to the motor Josh Bixler had on the HobbyKing Fox and the first attempt of the breaking-glass plane, just a bit faster, 2100Kv instead of 1860Kv,500W on 4s , around 400 on 3s)
ESC: Pelikan 50A ESC (a european Rc brand)
Servos: One team 13g MG micro servos (Pelikan again, I live in Poland)
Battery: Turnigy blue 2200mAh, 25C, 3s lipo
AUW: more less 800g when I'll add rudders
Thrust: around 900+ with a 6x5.5 APC prop
Airfoil: Kfm2 airfoil
Foam: 6mm Depron
Glue: Hotglue all around
Paint: some random Foam-safe spray paint:p

Will be posting flight video with rudders soon!

l really like your paint job! Do you have any flight videos of it? I'd like to see it fly.

Thanks! :D and as I stated in the article, the maiden was fine, but when it's windy, which it always is here in Poland, I need the rudders to pull out of situations where the plane gets caught up in the wind and gets stuck.....so ill add the rudders and do a flight video ;)

I can see where you masked off for the motor and servos, rather than that the plane looks amazing. I started to build the same plane using dollar tree foam board but havent finished it yet. Now I really want to. Great job on the plane.

Thanks alot :) and the servos and motor....it's the first time I painted a plane so I just didnt want to risk having anything not working after painting it :P

Hey I fly with the Dollar Tree foamboard all the time, but I highly recommend you waterproof it by brushing oil-based Minwax Polyurethane onto it. (ex: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Minwax-1-qt-Gloss-Fast-Drying-Polyurethane-63000/100136801#.UdS1fTvVCGA). This keeps humidity and light rain from ruining the paper, as the paper is very important and provides the majority of the strength to the foam. This is a recommendation I got from FliteTest, who got it from other guys on youtube. An article or two exists on Flitetest.com about it, but I just did it a few days ago and FINALLY my planes stop getting soggy and weak in the evenings with high humidity and dew on the grass.

I just think its funny that there are RC versions of this "real" jet with more flight time on them then the "Real" plane :p looks great man

I have one aswell, running on a 2200kv 250W motor its bit under powered, but fun to fly..

yea, if you have the entire plane glued together with epoxy, 250W is just about enough to fly, not aerobatic though, but if you build it with hotglue like I did, 300+ W is definitely needed :)
