Portable DVR for FPV

For some time now I've been wanting to add a DVR to my FPV kit.

(Funny how the gear just grows and grows.)

The DVR will allow me to record the transmission off the goggle to capture the OSD feed and add to my video produtions.

Back in early March I spotted this unit on DX.com.

SC-DVR 1-CH 5-Mode Recording Mini DVR w/ Remote Controller (PAL / NTSC)

With some older kit I now have a portable DVR setup for under $40 USD.

The nice thing about the SC model is it uses a SD card and will accept 5V power.

I happen to have a ESC that was not working well anymore to drive a motor but the BEC works just fine.

I modified a USB cable by adding a servo connector.

This allows me to power the DVR with my flight batteries or my old NICAD race batteries.

I simply made a TX60 to Deans cable but if this works out I'll remove the Deans.

This weekend I will give the DVR a full work out and see how well it fares in the field.

To allow everything to be accessible and breath I zipped tied the DVR to a water bottle holder with a belt strap. The NICADs do weight more then the LIPO batteries but not the end of the world.

Here is a feed from the DVR and transmission.

The flight was LOS and my son was in command of the camera.

There are some drops out mainly when directly over top.

I also suspect my son was moving around and may have bumped the power or video.

And for the final video.
