A FliteTest STEM Top Flight School
MF-135 Redemption
A summer has passed and it has been a long wait for Nic to redeem himself on his monster jet MF-35 Lightning project.
Hours of work went into creating that plane and to see it go down in the first 10 seconds of flight was devastating.
With the right mindset, these type of experiences can only lead to something bigger and better. After learning what had happened with his first build, Nic saught out to understand the what and the why and the solution was to redesign the lightning as well as scaling it up to 135 percent. By doing this he was able to get rid of his torque roll and have complete control of his aircraft, he totally redeem himself. This learning will guide him in his journey to develop the MF-16, which is deemed the hardest plane in the program to make right.
This particular build has Nic working within the Inquiry and Design Learning Strand of the FT STEM curriculum.
The problem, redesigning a previous aircraft to accomodate a certain power system. His solution, scale the plane and redesign the control surfaces to manipulate the performance of the aircraft in flight. Nic is a happy camper for his solution solved the problem.
Nic is just one student of the program and there are other students tackling on cool problems and getting ready to share their latest builds.
So stay tuned and on behalf of the MESArc team, thank you so much for supporting our program, look where you have allowed our students to go! Seven seasons and now working alongside Flite Test to make this available for other educators and programs around the country to use.
