Last weekend I took my son out for his first real flying experience.
I decided to use my Flyzone Micro Tiger Moth. Which is now a year old and well worn.
James did very well but we did manage to break 3 props that day. No big deal but not a field friendly task.
So I decided to modify our HiTec HawkEye chuck glider.
As you can see from the video it flies very well.
This is a simple 3 channel setup for training.
If you search online you'll see aileron setups.
For now this is basic enough that my son can fly and the plane should survive.
The parts list:
TURNIGY 2204-14T 19g Outrunner (Requires bullet connectors)
TowerPro 9g w12A Brushless Speed Controller (Requires bullet & battery connectors)
8040 Propellers (Orange - 5pc) (GWS Style Propellers)
HXT500 6.2g / 0.6kg / .08sec Micro Servo (Rudder/Elevator)
ZIPPY Compact 500mAh 2S 35C Lipo Pack
Turnigy XR5000 Receiver for Turnigy 4X TX (Small reciever which binds to my son's remote)
I did add a little tail weight and am fine tuning it but from the photos you can tell it is a pretty simple operations.
Hollow out the front section for the the gear, hot glue on a motor, carve out a spot for the 2 tail servos (I recommend you space them apart. I had the tail section break off due to the foam being to thin. Repaired and added a stick underneath) and set it up.
Nothing fancy but it flies.

He is fearful of crashing the plane or the costs of parts.
Silly kid. I keep telling him "Dude if my Dad could have afforded to let me fly as a kid I would have been all over that."
Once I get him to relax I'm pretty sure he'll enjoy it.
It will be awesome to have all 3 generation in a line flying together.

I had this plane out at my local small field last week. In a smaller park I noticed it would slow down enough. So I still have some work to do but to me it felt like a war bird with no ailerons :)

Great stuff hope you can make it. My Dad and I were flying the FT Racer and FT Spitfire on Monday. Had a blast.
We fly off the track/football field and the adjoining field. Lots of room very informal.
