Here is a video of my Halloween night adventures with my ghost tricopter. Scaring kids and wowing adults. I've been flying FT planes since early this year. I've always wanted to get into the hobby, but it was always so expensive to get started and I knew I would crash everything I would try, until I found Flitetest on youtube. I started out with the FT Flyer and Nutball. I gradually made it to multirotors, and I found my niche in tricopters. I built my tricopter based on designs from rcexplorer.se, simplecopter.com, and the Fortis Titan. All wonderful designs.
I've kept it pretty simple. I used the servo mechanism from simplecopter, the body from rcexplorer, and the camera mount from the Fortis Titan. The tricopter is all wood and hardware from homedepot. Electronics are, KK2.0, F-30A SimonK flashed ESCs, Turnigy D2826-10 1400KV motors, Flashed Turnigy 9x, Turnigy Nano-Tech 3S 2650mah 25-50c battery, 8x4.5 Slofly props, and the cheapest Corona metal gear 12gram servo I could find at $5. The servo has been through 2 major crashes in which I've broke the tail mechanism and is still going strong.
The ghost is a $15 porch hanging display from Party City/Halloween City. I used Turnigy LED strips for lighting. 12 white LEDs on each front arm, and 12 red LEDs under the head with a remote relay switch. I used a sheet of paper in the head, and a folded paper plate on each arm to difuse the light from LEDs to create a glow effect.
I hope you enjoy the video even though it is quite long.
