Initial Thoughts
The first thing we noticed about this camera was the 1080p 30fps video recording. As someone that almost always flies at 60fps, it was a little disappointing. Needless to say, this camera proved to be pretty valuable for other reasons. As you can see from the pictures, the Git1 is the same dimensions as the GoPro. Remarkably, it fits all of the cases and lens covers, and even the buttons line up through the case! The built-in LCD was a nice feature, it's very helpful in framing up your shots or having easy access to settings. That being said, the interface was a little clumsy, which is to be expected from cheap electronics. The WiFi we did not test, mostly because we never use WiFi while flying (2.4Ghz can interfere with radio signals). The price is also pretty reasonable, $90, in the same range as the Mobius camera.
Images
These images were captured from the Git1 as screenshots of 1080p 30fps video. For comparison, we took similar shots with a GoPro hero 3+ black edition.
In this picture you can really see where the camera lacks in dynamic range. The foreground is very dark, while the sky is fairly well exposed.
These pictures were taken within minutes of each other from my mini quad. Although the GoPro looks a little saturated, it is much sharper and has a better dynamic range.
Again, you can see the difference in dynamic range and sharpness. I'm not saying that these cameras are comparable quality in any way, but the 3+ black is the kind of quality we've come to expect from an action cam, and serves as a sort of baseline for us.
Conclusions
In the end, the Git1 performed pretty well for its price. I would say the quality is similar to that of a Hero 2, maybe a hero 3. Unfortunately, we do not own a Mobius, or else we would have done a comparison with that. The Mobius has a similar quality and price range. Having WiFi and an LCD screen are nice features, but only the LCD is very useful. The fact that this camera fits with GoPro cases means you can easily swap it for anything you're already using, such as a gimbal, or fpv setup. In the end, if you're looking for a moderate-quality, reasonably-priced, "GoPro shaped" camera, then...
Maybe you should Git1.
Leave a comment about the kind of cheap HD cameras you use, as well as what you think about this camera.
Thanks,
