Would the motor off an old DJI phantom vision 2+ work? is it too low KV?

Probably not. The Phantoms run on 2212 motors, which are bigger than the 2204 style motors used for the Mighty Minis. You are right, the KV rating would be too low, and you'd also be significantly nose heavy.

This is the first time that i have left a comment on the flight test wall. I had to write a review on this plane because i enjoy flying it more that all of my other 3d or scale planes ranging in sizes from umx to 50 cc. I had watched watched the video of the pylon racing and thought that this would be a great plane to have fun flying in a group with, i was correct. This plane flys really slow and stable despite it feels a bit heavy for its size. I can hover this plane just over half throttle just as easy as my eflight slick. It holds a knife edge and does most of the tricks that i can do on a 3d plane other than the knife edge loop and spin. Great job guys on the design. There is a few things i plan on changing but there is no real need. I would make the control horns a bit longer to get more throws, and get arid of the swappable setup. I built mine from your plans. Thanks for the great plane, and the guys at our local club are all inpressed by the slow aerobatic praditable flight and are planning to build a bunch. Thanks Flight Test
