FT Racer-Slinger Project

I would like to thank EFBE for the nice decals for this FT- Racer-Slinger.

Plastic Coating of Plane:

This model was covered with Hanger9 Ultracote. This coating is designed to activate the glue on the film at around 200 degrees. Special care is needed to not over heat the foam board because the foam will melt and distort at higher temperatures. Two rolls of Ultracote were used, black and green, at a total of  $32.00

Turtle Deck Assembly

The turtle deck is made from dollar tree poster board.   I ironed the Ultracote on one side. The turtle deck is the last part of the planes assembly.  Next, on the non-coated side, I traced the turtle deck parts from Flite Test and cut them out. Alot of warping is needed in order to fit these parts correctly. The reason for the extra warping is due to the tight plastic coating but it is still possible to form these parts. I am very impressed with how strong the turtle deck is after adding the plastic coating. The turtle deck is my favorite part on this plane.   It looks like a mirror.

The Decals

I downloaded the decals from user EFBE and resized them using microsoft paint. I printed these out using an ink jet printer. I cut the decals out and laminated them with clear glossy packing tape. Next, I stuck them on the plane. Tip: Press really hard to remove the air bubbles on a non-stick wax paper sheet before applying them on the plane. Doing this will help intensify the colors on the decals.

I plan on finishing this plane and getting it in the air in a few days.

I want to thank Flite Test for what they do and there instruction videos are awesome!

Nice looking. Do you have a scale? I'd be curious to know what the plane weighs. (With wires/servos, but without powerpod/electronics and any landing gear.) I have a completed but unpainted/finished Racer I'd like to compare it to.

Thanks! While not a perfect comparison, my uncovered Racer is 10.9 oz (310g). I have the "hat", but no air-scoops, so maybe the covering adds a 1.5-2 oz. Can't imagine that the ~15% increase would hurt performance with a Beef-sized motor.
