Walk around - Flite Test - Fowl Flyer Twin.
This version is mated to a 60" Armin wing with a 7" cord, lightening holes, covered with monokote, and with carbon arrow shafts as a spar. Additional items include steerable nose wheel, connected rudders, and carbon booms. I intend to make this a cargo dropper and a back door will round out the build. Wing loading in current configuration is 19.47oz/ft2 with 420in2 as wing area, just slightly less then plan spec. of 20.45oz/ft2 & 400in2 if it had the additional wt. of motors, batts, etc...Only issues I currently have is walking the CG back to the sweet spot, and the need for a bit more elevator. I wonder if the force exerted by the elevator is less because of the carbon booms flexing effectively decreasing the moment....not sure,...still a few bugs to iron out, but a satisfying build overall. Thanks again to the Flite Test crew for the inspiration
Maiden - Flite Test - Fowl Flyer Twin
Had to ditch straight ahead on the first flight and avoid the urge to attempt a turn. You full scale pilots understand. Off field landing resulted in breaking the nose wheel(easy fix). Not wanting to call it a day I slapped some tape on it and forged ahead. The new angle of attack with the missing the nose wheel added significant distance to takeoff roll. I also needed to fiddle with the CG quite a bit by lowering the batts. into the cargo bay and moving them back about 4" pushing the Cg just behind the spar. This brick still needs a bit more elevator and I think that will 5by5 this sucker. cheers.
Parachute Drops - Flite Test - Fowl Flyer Twin
Both test drops with a bit of digital zoom.Full speed and 3/4 speed.Best Viewed in 720+full screen.
First drop is 8 troopers, 1 failed to open correctly, 1 hung on the door initially, then fell away later. The remainder were deployed to the battle field.
Second drop is 4 troopers,1 large cargo box 200g, and 1 small cargo box. I couldn't get a camera man on short notice. Not easy to track multiple falling objects and fly, so not quite the footage I was hoping for, but the drops were successful.
POP POP Drop - Flite Test - Fowl Flyer Twin
The school bus is loaded up with some pop pop's/snap caps. The first drop worked well, but right as I was about to drop the second, a strong gust pushed the the FF off to the side and I needed to correct around the light pole. This made the drop hit the dirt and far less exciting. I should of made another go and lined up better, but I am still getting a handle on cargo dropping accurately. Also in the video; the Foul Flyer makes a few rolls, a wing over, a large loop, and a keg stand.
