Foarmboard in Europe

Hello fellow scratch-builders.

I have for some time now encountered a problem with finding foamboard in Europe. I my self am from Denmark. I have recently come across a few articles and websites about foamboard and more specificly foamboard in Europe. A bit of info on the foamboard can be found a the bottum of this post.

YES.

I have learned that a company called '3A composites' have made a line of foamboard called "KAPA line", which to the description should be exactly like the dollar tree foamboard that the flitetest guys are using, however i cannot, i a practicall mannor of speaking comfirm this. this is the reason for the article; I would like to know if someone here at the flitetest community have tested this line of foamboard, and if so tell me if it is like the kind that the flitetest guys use.

So therefore here is a little list of website, of companies, all around Europe, who sells the KAPA line foamboard, only problem is that most companies won't let you buy a single piece over the net; well they wont deliver a single piece because it cost to much to transport due to the fragillity of foamboard, so this has to be specially delivered, or you have to go the store and get it for you self (that is my main problem, the delivery).

http://www.tegneogkontor.dk/shop/kapaline-5mm-70-8331p.html#.UnlA8_lFWpA, Denmark, Odense

http://www.largeformat.dk/kapa-plader-skumpap-p-307.html, Denmark, just north of CPH

http://modelshop.co.uk, UK, London

http://www.greatart.co.uk/Papers/Specific-papers/Cardboards/Kapa-Line-Boards.html, UK, london

http://www.adlerbs.co.uk/storefront/Kapa-Line-Foam-Board-500x700mm-5mm-thickness-Pack-24-P-173386#.UngY_flFW0C, UK colchester

The following company sopposedly delivers to the UK, Germany and France, but i could not find any pricess, delivery terms or the likes, i propally just over looked it, but still keep and eye out:

http://www.kohlschein.de/en/produkte/kapa-platten/kapaline

This foamboard is made in different meassurements:
5, 10, 15, 20 mm thickness
500 x 700 mm, 700 x 1000 mm, 1000 x 1400mm, 1400 x 3000mm, 1530 x 3050mm and 2030 x 3050mm lenght and width. The foamboard has a polyurethane foam core, and is covered on both sides with paper (some would call it carton, that is a papir which is a little-bit thicker than your everyday printing papir).

The pricing i found differse a little from store to store and country to country, but it is around 2-10 Euros, 1-8£ and 25-75 DKK. CHECK THE PRICE when you look for this stuff, do not buy it for more than this, per piece, some stores take up 50£ A PIECE, which i dont understand, so make sure that the price is right, should you decide to put it to the test.

Sorry if i havent found a company that is close to your area, however should it turn out that this KAPA-line foamboard is the right stuff, then i think, you aren't gonna have a hard time finding it. searching on google for the "KAPA line foamboard" is somewhat easy.

I REALLY hope someone has or will test(ed) this product, since this might be an answer to our/my prayers for foamboard in Europe. have a good day.

Hello, I am also from Belgium.

The foamboard are called "carton plume" in French, and they exist in many thickness and size.

A 700 x 1000 x 5 mm sheet weights around 330g and cost a bit more than €8. (enough for a FT Versa).

Can be found in art shop (as artiom shevchenko said), in the "Club" shops and maybe in "Ava papier" shop, but I haven't checked that yet.

Share your supplier info to spread the FT Virus in Europe :-D

Ok, I checked "Ava papier" yesterday and their board of 700 x 1000 x 5 mm are at a bit less than €6, which is the lowest price I found.

Cheers.

In the UK I've bought from www.foam-board.co.uk. They are currently offering 10 sheets of A1 5mm paper backed foam board for £23.20. Shipping is a little steep at £6.95 making the cost £3.02 per sheet. The postage the same if you buy multiple packs if you can get a few people to club together.

I have used the 6mm and the 3mm boards, they are allot stronger but also allot heavier. So for most FT models i started using the 3mm board, with the 6mm board a foam only Versa wing is about 480 grams, 260 grams for the 3mm. The 6mm versa wing barely got of the ground with the 1300kv 24gr motor.

KAPA is sold all over theUK

https://www.google.co.uk/#q=KAPA+foam+board+UK

However it comes out very expensive. about £7.30 per 27 inch (700mm) x 39inch (1000mm) This is slightly larger than the 30 x 20 inch dollar tree board.

The Hobbycraft board comes out at £2,16 a board if you buy 3 or more and weighs in a little heavY at ,33 gms/sq inch. (uncalibrated scales.

My models using this come out at:

FT Flyer 304 gms
FT delta 331 gms
Old Fogey 541 gms
This is fully fitted minus the battery.

Slightly on the heavy side but not un-flyable.

hello again guys and gals. for what it's worth, i belive that KAPA-Line is actually the cheapest type of foamboard, in Europe that i could find, if you buy like at least 10 or 12, sometimes 24 pieces at once. I understand that 24 is a lot, but 10 and 12 is usable, and when you do buy this many the price is rather low, like 6-7 USD a piece. SO i suggest that you bunch up with a few mates and build some planes together because the more you buy at once the cheaper the foamboard, and a lot of companies do free shipping if you buy more than 10 pieces.

Hi
I was looking for foam board in Norway and ended up with "Centafoam" which comes in different sizes. It is also slightly lighter than "Kapa line"
I have used it and it works perfect. But it is kind of expensive i think, 1 Board 70x100cm (27.56 X 39.37 in) and 5mm (0.2 in) thick. Price in Norway NOK 80.-
(ca 9.47 EURO, 7.9 £, 12.73 US $)

Hi, I also ran into the issue of finding foamboard. Eventually I bought some in a office store and it turned out to be centafoam, it is light weight buy the paper is hard to remove and even though it is strong if you try to fold it it has a tendency to break

An alternative to KAPA line
SELITAC 5mm 800mmx600mm floor foam from the German firm SELIT, it is perforated, covered with aluminum foil on one side and green.
SELITAC is a very lightweight foam material but also fragile, so lamination with packaging tape and / or additional reinforcement is a must.
The aluminum foil can be easily pulled off, which advantageously can be done before you cut your parts out.
Versa winger around 180g incl. lamination with packaging tape without electronics and engine / battery.
FT Duster 270g incl. additional reinforcement of the airframe without motor / battery.

The German company SELIT also manufacture Depron sheets, but I have not found a place where it can be bought in Denmark.

Hey Guys! Im from Switzerland. I'm kinda in the same Trouble. I was looking all over the places for foambaord. I also found the Kapa-Line. It is really solid, but there are some weight issues with it. Especially if you build the old fogey with the 5mm one, what I did to start of. The plane was to heavy and I needed alot stronger motor than recommanded. Kapa-Boards are made with a polyrethan core and this what makes it heavy but also really strong. So designed a new airplan with the same angles and Proportion of the old fogey, but with a thiner fuselage. It runs perfectly even with 35 W brushed System. Also made some light buidling on the wings by using just sticks cutted out of kapa and glued to the shape of the original wing and covered with tapped. Recently
I found now in a opitec store foamboard that comes witha a polysterol-core. I think this one should be lighter, but it's also more expensive tho. But I will try it soon.

I use the standard foamboard, and follow the plans 100 percent. It's basically the same thing as Readiboard from Dollartree, except the paper is a little more thick. Also, it's slightly more heavy, I have heard.
It works, though... Very well, and relatively cheap.

Hey brothers and sisters in flight, foam board yep its a hassle even now josh and his team have ( white waterproof foam board ) yes flyers the good stuff!! How to get it to europe thats the question i have spoke with josh and he wasinformed of this prob so he reached out to GROUPNER DE . I told him i would follow up to see how this went. TOTAL FAILURE!!! They triedto take advantige of flite test only to push their product at a high cost using groupner name. I told the FT team and as we talk now they are trying to find sombady else. How i got my foam board here in holland was easy.... i found sombady that was having a trip to the us and asked for them to bring a box back....it cost nothing for extra baggage on the plane after all it weighs nothing. Now we are dealing with Carona virus and flights are canceld to the US but when they do start up Flite Test has wherehouses on the east coast as well as the west. I know alot of you flyers want the good stuff( waterproof) yes dollar tree works fine ,if you crash alot like me.....ha ha. If you can find a brother or sister going to the states just let them bring a box back its the cheepest way to go for the right product.
Keep safe fly hard, support FT when you can, and if your going to Ohio in the US go to edgewater airpark its realy worth it.

Hey Flea Owl, please keep us updated on progress on getting the foamboard to Europe! Especially now with more models from the master series being published, I'm really aching to start building one of these! I hope John will design and develop a P-40 Curtiss Warhawk in the future and blow it up to 186% like he did with the others... I had a Revell kit of this plane as a kid... it was my favorite!
Cheers,
Filip
