Flyzone Micro cub Review

Hey all,

Here's a shout out to Flitetest for the great forum and website they have provided for us, not to mention excellent youtube content!

The Flyzone micro cub is an excellent entry into the world of Micro RC. Its flight charcteristics are docile, but it can be pushed to perform if needbe. the stock power system is also very adequate, and even at 6,000 ft, overpowered for a cubbie.

The packaging was Ok, I much prefer the look of the Parkzone and Hobbyzone UM boxes, but this one does the job.

Much as I disliked the Exterior, I have found that the interior is very well thought out, and protects the aircraft superbly.

I quickly installed the AA's in the small Transmitter, got the 140 MAh Lipo cell charging, and read the instruction manual.

An inspection of the interior of the plane revealed 2 fully cased servos, no built in linear servos here!

After I got it assembled, I got my dad to take me to the park for my first flights.

Although the box claimed that a flight time of 10 minutes was possible, I was skeptical at best.

Take offs were initially impossible, so I twisted some toe in into the maingear, and then was able to perform almost flawless takeoffs.

Flight characteristics were trainer like at 1/2 throttle, but at full throttle, this is an entirely different bird. I was even able to execute several barrel rolls and a loop before settling into more scale flight.

Takeoffs would have been easier if I wouldn't have had a crosswind, but were possible until the battery ran down to far to clear the grass on my 5 ft. runway.

My skeptism of the flight time was entirely unfounded, as I was able to fly a mixed routine for 16 minutes in a light wind. This being my first Micro, I was very impressed with this flight time.

All in all, this is a great plane, but NOT for a beginner unless it isflown indoors . Infact, this plane excels as a great little RET aerobat when flown outdoors. I do not have an Indoor Venue that is easily accessible, so I can't vouch for that. All in all, if you have 70$, and want a good first micro, pick one up as soon as you can.

Pros:
Easy assembly.
Real servos!
Plenty of power.
Maneuverable as I'll get out!
Lands nicely.
Nice wheels.

Cons:
Instruction manual could be better.
Struts pop off every 3 to 4 landings.
EDIT: My prop was very fragile, and disintegrated on a gentle nose over after 15 flights.

Thank you to my Dad for the flight Photos, I was impressed!

This is a great little plane. I had one given to me by a friend that wanted me to get back in RC flying. I flew gas planes in the late 80"s. this was my intro to electric flight and I love it. We have had to replace parts a lot since I was a beginner again. It is still my favorite little plane. I won't give it up. I am flying swappables right now also.

Propeller seems to be quite large, what size was it?

It was about 4.5 x 2.75. Now I have a Sukhoi motor and a 6.25 x 2.5 prop.
