Fenix 80 Chuck glider conversion

So, I bought one of the Fenix 80 chuck gliders from Dan at LazerToys and figured I would turn it into a RC glider! It was a simple conversion, and came out quite clean! It Glides very nicely for being a draggy EPP glider. I do need to extend the rudder control surface all the way to the top of the rudder though, itndoesn't quite have to control I want, though it can turn just fine.

I did put my own twist on it by making the elevator a full flying stab, It works very nicely.

Enough words! Here are some pictures!

This is where I ended up placing the battery. It is a LiFe pack, so i don't  need any voltage regulation to te RX.

On my rudder, I used a pull-pull system to keep the weight and complexity down.

This is the full flying stab, it gives me very good control authority.

Detail of the pull-pull

And this is where my RX lives. The battery wires run through a slot cut so they can reach the RX with no wires exposed.

I'm hoping I can find a small slope to try some slope soaring. There isn't much in Georgia. It will probably be used to be towed up by another plane and just float around to see if I can ride some thermals. I am suprized by how the plane floats though, I can just chuck it by hand and glide to about 100 feet out, then make a wide turn and bring it back to me and catch it about chest height.

I hope this can inspire you to create new things and don't be scared to try things for yourself, that's how you learn!

Hmm I may just try that! I will have to figure out if I want a tractor or pusher.. The old gentle lady gliders used a tractor power pod.. It's suppose to be more efficient.
