Cheap FPV H-quad build

A few months ago I built my first quadcopter.

Used parts list:
MultiWii 328P Flight Controller w/FTDI & DSM2 Port
D2822/14 Brushless Outrunner 1450kv
Hobby King 20A ESC 3A UBEC
 + SimonK firmware
On-Board Lipoly Low Voltage Alarm 2s~3s
Homemade frame (according to this example

I was flying it with 2200mAh 3S 25C Lipo Pack. Personally, I used these:
ZIPPY Flightmax 2200mAh 3S1P 40C and
ZIPPY Compact 2200mAh 3S 25C Lipo Pack

One of the flying video:

After some time I decided to try FPV, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money. So I tried to make my FPV setup cheap as possible.

FPV setup parts list:
Boscam FPV 5.8G 200mW Wireless Audio Video Transmitter Module TX5823
Boscam FPV 5.8G Wireless Audio Video Receiving Module RX5808
Hobby King Discovery Buzzer
Super Simple Mini OSD System for FPV

Stuff from Ebay:
5" High Resolution HD 800*480 Car TFT LCD Monitor
XL Full Page Fresnel Lens Flexible Card
Mini 3A DC-DC Converter Adjustable Step down Power Supply Module replace LM2596s
RP-SMA male to RP SMA male RF Pigtail Coaxial Cable RG316
RP-SMA female jack PCB mount
Mini USB 8 Pin Plug Male Socket Connector

already had a 808 #18 KeyChain Camera, so I used it as DVR and FPV camera at the same time.

All other stuff was used from my old quad.

After four weeks I started to build my FPV quad. First, I made a AV out cable for my camera:

Then I made a cable for my monitor:

Here it is AV out lag test of 808 #18 KeyChain Camera while it's connected directly to the monitor:

A little modification for monitor cable, so that I could power up my video receiver:

After that I made soldering jobs for my FPV transmitter and receivers (I ordered two for diversity controller) and made antennas:

Here it is AV out lag test of 808 #18 KeyChain Camera while it's connected to the video transmitter:

Comparison of pictures while LC filter isn't used:

LC filter connected:

How to make LC filter (link).

Next thing to do was diversity controller. Links to tutorials how it's made:
A $1.29 FPV diversity controller (theory & design)
A $1.29 FPV diversity controller (build video)
A $1.29 FPV diversity controller (improvements) (P. S. I didn't use resistor)

To make sure that my controller works, I just swich the channels on the video receivers so I could see that one or another receiver are receiving the signal and controller is letting it go corectly.

Next step - the frame. Now I had a chalange to lift more gear but make the quad weight the same as old one. To make the frame more lighter I didn't use metal screws. Some photos of frame build:

The result:

AUW is about 700g, almost the same as old quad. Flying time is 7-8 minutes. It hovers at 50% of throttle so I'm very happy with that. Usually after crash I change a zip tie holding the arm. Because there is no more holes in arms and screws in it, I haven't brake it yet. All FPV gear can be removed easily, so I can put it on my plane.

A lot of people for their ground stations use tripods. I don't have one, so I decided to make a ground station mount on my transmitter back. The photo before:

After:

Than the fresnel lens finally arrived I made my HMD. I used 2cm foam, hot glue gun and packaging tape:

So now my gear looks like this:

UPDATE:

Using this setup I flew 1,6 km. The only modification that I made was 2.4Ghz transmitter antenna. I made bicircler/biquad antenna because after 1 km the telemetry value of TX droped to 45 for a second using FrSky 2.4G 5db module antenna, so I decided not to risk of loosing signal and made this:

I had no telemetry warnings using new antenna.

I still can use my old antenna for around flying:

Also I lifted video transmitter a little bit higher:

Great work! Just wondering, is the monitor you have non-blue screen?

It's blue screen, but it shows only then the signal is completely lost. So I can fly successfully even if I have a lot of noice in my video signal.

About 80-90 dollars if you already have everything what I had. The biggest part of cost is monitor (30 dollars), so if you want, you get cheaper one with a lower resolution. But I'm really happy that I bought this one.

Great build, the ground station back-packed on your radio is a cool idea!
