BE CAREFUL OF YOUR PUSHRODS

This is what can happen when you dont pay attention or get bad pushrods...

It's not particularly nice. (also that broken bit is really sharp)

I was just bending my pushrods this week and it split whilst I was in the process of doing so. And it REALLY hurt.

So here are some tips to make sure you don't get cut by your pushrods! :)

1. Don't use rusty pushrods

Just don't. They are much weaker. On the plus side rust reduces weight! (if they are already bent)

2. Dont use your bear hands whilst bending them.

Use something like gardening gloves while bending your pushrods so if it does snap, or you poke yourself, you don't get jabbed and start bleeding like I did.

3. Make sure they are of high quality.

Don't just use any wire. Consult rc forums for ones that are readily available near you or go down to your hobby shop for advice.

4. Don't keep bending them back and forth.

The bending stretches the metal and constantly doing this will break the pushrod.

When bending piano wire they say you get about 3-4 tries to bend a joint before it will fail. You want to do your bend slowly but all at once, don't bend it half-way, stop, and bend some more. Get it close with one bend and try to sneak up on the final bend in one or two more, tiny adjustments. Bigger wire is more likely to break when bent more than once or bent fast. Don't bend around a really sharp radius either. If your bend-radius is too small you will snap the wire. This, again, is more true of larger diameter wire.
