Cheap Push Rods

To start off you will need a few things.

-Regular drinking straws

-Floral wire

Drinking straws can be found at dollar tree (180 for 1$) Or pretty much everywhere els.

I found Floral wire at Stein Garden & Gifts (18 ga. 18") lenght doesn't mater.

Now, lets get started!

First take a drinking straw and cut about 1 cm (1/2 inch) I marked it so that you can see it. This step just helps you get this straw into the next straw.

Then squeeze the cut end and push it into the uncut end of another straw.

You should end up with something like this.

Now take some floral wire and push it through :)

But what if it isn't long enough?

If it isn't long enough, read the next few steps. If it is the right lenght then skip to the section called "Conecting it to your servos"

Take two pices of floral wire, but don't cut it yet.

Bend up one end on each wire.

Make a loop on both ends and fold what is left of the end of one wire up to the other wire. Do this on both wires. It will be able to wiggle around a bit, but the next step will fix that.

Get a peace of tape (duct tape works the best) and tape it together.

Cut off excess tape. Also cut off and excess tape that is around the wire. Do this untill it can fit in the straw with little resistance.

9If it fits in the starw, move onto the next part.

Conecting it to your servos

You will find that the wire won't fit in most servo arm holes, this is an easy fix. Drill out the hole with a 1/16's drill bit. but don't do it in the end hole. otherwise it will break through the end of the plastic and you will have a broken servo arm. Drill out the second to end hole on the server arm. (or any hole that is behind that just not the end hole)

I used 5/64's so it wouln't actualy be that big.

Now bend the end of the wire to look like this. Push it into your servo and you are done!

Hi - That should do the job! :) But instead of a folded eye-to-eye join to lengthen control wires, I've had complete success with just laying the wire rods alongside each other and wrapping thread around them. Once you've got about thirty or forty turns apply some CA glue to soak the thread. Makes a very strong connection. I've used this method to bond wire to wire in lots of situations, including support struts for cabane assemblies. Look in the articles; Velie Monocoupe, 1919 AVRO & Rebuild that wreck for examples of the technique.

Thanks for the comment, that is a great idea! using the tape can make it hard to fit through the straw.
