Antenna Protectors For Spektrum Recievers

Intro

After flying with my spektrum parkfly receiver exposed on the back of my quad, I decided to make something to hold the two short antennas out a parallel with each other, as well as protectect them from bending.

In this article I will explain how I did it so you can as well.

Note, for this demo I am using a satellite receiver, but it will work on any receiver with two short parallel antennas.

Parts Needed

  1. Zipties (3x small, 4inch zipties/cableties)
  2. Section of antenna tube, aprrox 2 1/2 inches long
  3. Scissors or cutters for the zipties.

This picture only shows 2 zipties, you will need three.

Procedure

Step one is to cut the antenna tube to lenght.  You will need two pieces slighty longer than the antennas.

Step two is to cut the head and end off of one ziptie, giving us a straight section.  You can also start the other two zipties, just leave about a 1/4 inch diameter loop, big enough to go around a section the cut ziptie and one of the tubes.

Step three is to place the tubes over the antennas, and place the straight section of ziptie across the tubes and receiver.

Step four.  Slip the two zipties over each antenna tube and cinch down lightly.

To finish up, push the tubes flush with the receiver case, then tighten and trim the zipties.  You know have well positioned and protected antennas.

It is sold specifically as antenna tube. They are most commonly used for rc cars and trucks. They can be purchased from hobbyking and most hobby retailers. I purchased mine for a dollar at my local hobby shop. Any plastic tube will work, just don't use metal, carbon fibre or any other conductive material, they will block the signal.
