Make Cheap Control Horns

This will show you how to make literally hundreds of control horns for just about ten bucks. What you will need...

  1. 1/16" plastic for sale sign, I got mine from ACE Hardware and it was just under $10.00.
  2. Metal ruler, ideally 1 1/4" wide
  3. Box cutter, or sharp scissors
  4. Small Exacto knife
  5. Sharpie marker
First, trace the edge of the ruler several times, horizontally and vertically across the sign with the sharpie, making a grid of 1 1/4" squares.

Next, use the ruler and box cutter to cut the squares out, as many as you need, each square makes two control horns.

Mark 1/4" in from each corner, on opposite sides of the square, then draw a line to connect them diagonally. Next, draw a line from each mark, parallel with the edge of the square. The end result will be a "Z" shape, as shown below.

Draw a line though the center of the "Z", vertically, like below.

Cut the bottom left, and upper right rectangle away from the square, as shown.

Then cut across the diagonal line. Use the small Exacto to "drill" out a small hole for the pushrod.

I use the sharpie to color them black, then throw them on your scratchbuilt plane using hotglue.

Enjoy, hopefully that isn't too confusing, and please let me know what you think... Thanks!

This method seems a lot simpler then other methods I have tried, and I can get more bang for my buck.
