I like big planes and helis. Nothing wrong with that I guess. Just costs more to have fun. So since I liked the Old Fogey Josh came up with. I decided to blow the plans up to the scale I needed. First off let me give you the electronics list I used so you can see the size difference.
NTM Prop Drive 35-36A 910 350W motor
HXT900 servos
Master airscrew 10 x 4
Turnigy 2200mah 40-50c battery
Turnigy 45 sbec speed controller
This is the stuff I used cause it was just extras on the shelf. Anyone can use whatever they like. My fun was in trying to figure out where the PDF plans needed to be changed to fit my needs. Simply blowing up all the proportions is not going to make a balanced well flying plane. But a did originally add 12.5% to the original dimensions. Then realizing I have some serious weight in the battery (about 209 grams with leads) I widened again the main wing 4 inches to help add lift. Also since there is no way I would be able to tuck a 2200mah battery all the way up front like Josh did with his 500mah, I extended the tail 2.5 inches to add more weight rearward.
Like the fueselage I also had to enlarge the Swappable Pod a bit to handle the weight and size of the motor mount. Not just the front for the motor pod but the entire pod width and height as well.
Well enough Talk. How did it fly? Well Bixlers Plans were sweet and the Maiden was too. Very nice and plenty of power. I love power! She is a slow flyer and a dogfighter when I want her to be. Watch the video and see. I plan on better video soon as the weather clears up a bit. Sorry about the focus and camera issues. I have my 7 year old daughter help me always.
Let me know with comments if anyone needs anymore details. Always glad to help.
p.s. flying weight is 889 grams. Thrust is 925 grams with 10/6 prop. Wingspan is 46 1/2 inches.
This is the cub my rear tail wheel came from. Yes its steerable cause the rod runs through the rudder.
Here.... That same setup is rebent to fit the Old Fogey.
