This times project is to make a Basic HUD for FPV purposes. A HUD is a display that reflects light from a projector through a transparent glass. HUD stands for Head Up Display, basically it gives you all the information you need without having to look down at the instruments. Now the fun part, here´s how to build it.
First step will be to make a camera platform fitting your airplane. In my case i´s a Twinstar II
Next step will be to make a light emitter, this is one of the most difficult things. This is what i did.
These are four 3 led lengths from the Hobbyking LED Strips. these are very bright and do the job perfectly. to make a pattern on the HUD, you can choose to have them all lid, this makes a grid of light on the HUD. Basically the pattern you make here is going to be the pattern you see on the HUD.
If you want to make your own light emitter, here are the things to follow watch out for.
*Everything but the light itself has to be black, if not,it will be reflected as well giving a disturbed image on the HUD
*It has to be bright enough, if it isn´t you wont see it when its bright outside
*the glass can not be smaller than the display, the glass has to be either equal or bigger than the display
Now, aligning the HUD Display to the Camera view
when you align the glass, you need to use it like mirror. you need to have to turn on the lights, and position the camera at it´s default position (meaning pointing forward at the right horizontal angle) then turn on the lights, and use a live feat from the camera to get the perfect angle.
afterwards, you just have to secure it on the cockpit and there you go :)
One cool fact is that you cant see display from the other side. so no one byt you know what it says or shows :)
So, as i mentioned, this is the Basic Version. Further development could be a moving display or more detailed figures. I hope you try it out and i hope you liked it :)
