GPS Protector

Usually, the GPS antenna is one of the most exposed and vulnerable parts of our multirotor. In this video I explain step by step how to do, with cheap materials, a protector for our GPS antenna.

Materials:

-A rigid plastic glass

-Aluminium adhesive tape.

-Doublesided tape

This is a very easy tutorial about what I have done.

First thing you have to do is find a good plastic glass where your GPS fits well.

Measure and mark the height at which you are going to cut. 2cm is enought.

After triyng other methods to cut it, I finally use the Dremel.

Protect your glass with tape to protect it if you fail cutting.

Do a slot to introduce the cable.

The aluminum tape is to isolate the noise of other electronic components, which can cause the errors. It works like a Faraday shield. It should be welded to the negative of what you want to isolate ... but for now is a test. Depending on the metal (copper, aluminum, ...) isolates one or other frequencies.

Draw the bottom diameter and the inside weight with a compass and then mark some radious to cut them to achive the cilindrical shape.

Fix you GPS with doublesided tape.

Now, if a crash happens... the glass will receive the hit, protecting your GPS antenna.

That is all! Good flights!!

I hope you like it! I will give you more tips on my YouTube Channel.  ;)

Nice idea! Good call with the shielding too. I have been running into issues with my Midland XTC camera giving off lots of noise that kills my GPS signal.
