Vector Flight Controller + OSD - Basic Setup

by FliteTest | December 10, 2014 | (13) Posted in How To

The Eagle Tree Systems Vector Flight Controller + OSD system is a flight controller designed to work with a wide range of aircraft.

You'll want to check and update the latest firmware in your Vector system. More info. HERE

The setup is pretty straight forward and be sure to read over the user manual before setting up your system.

This is just a quick setup overview, you can get much more information HERE.

It's always good practice to double check all of your connections and keep a consistent color scheme with your wire.

We installed our Eagle Tree Vector system onto one of your ElectroHub quadcopter kits.

Here's the basic setup of the Vector System on the FT ElectroHub, setup with a Fatshark SpiroNet antenna and an ImmersionRC 600mW 5.8GHz transmitter.

The Vector system includes the base controller unit, the GPS/Magnetometer, and the Current Sensor/PSU.

You can always clean up the wires after you verify everything is working correctly.

Always remove props when working with a live multirotor on the work bench.

The Vector system's menu is navigated with your radio.

The OSD system offers a full color display read out.

Even cooler, the colors are fully adjustable to your preference.

You can learn more about the Eagle Tree Systems Vector Flight Controller + OSD HERE!

This looks like a really nice all in one system, after the bank account recovers from the holidays I'm gonna have to get one...and I will be putting it on my Electrohub spider as well so this video is perfect!!

$280?? kk2.1.5 mini is $24, APM 2.7 is $70. Nothing I seen here cant be done with a board that is 1/4 the price. For the scratch build community I dont think is is a viable option.

I agree $280 is expensive when comparing it to a DIY. It is more refined, and it is a complete system that is know to work together. Is that worth 2-4 times the money? For some people it may be, but your right not for the DIY people.

I got mine for 215 through Tower Hobbies. Still expensive but of much higher quality than a $100 APM clone.

Time to watch the congressional hearing in the Forums. Pilots ass. wants to make rc flying impossible for the hobbyist. Congressman already have Toy quads. AMA only mentioned once. FAA doesn't know what to do and is dragging their feet. Best line was " The cats out of the bag" with thousands of RC aircraft already sold. Some common sense statements were made.

I just purchased my first multi-rotor airframe (Fortis.... David is out of stock and FT doesn't sell them...but they review well so I am trying one) and all the basics to get me started this last week. I am looking for my first FPV and OSD setup now and the Vector is not a compelling price point to make me consider it in my first rig. This review is great, and I would consider it on a dedicated photo rig if/when I learn to fly and not crash with some control.... I am looking at using the KK or MultiWii board and the OSD systems built around those platforms. Specifically, it would be fantastic to have an updated video talking about the Open Source system options and how to get started with them, then later upgrade to something like this. Also, I would love to see you guys review of RC simulators. I just picked up Real Flight 7.5 to practice my tricopter/flight skills and I am so glad I did. It has really helped and I like the software, but I had a hard time knowing what, if any, other tricopter flight training options I had. Great videos and thanks!

After watching this a few times, I went out and looked at other videos of OSD systems.... This one is more and more impressive the more I look at it. Just wish it were $100 cheaper!

You can find it for about $200. That is $80 cheaper at least. :)

I would like to see an episode where the Vector and a camera are installed in either the Mini Guinea, or the yet-to-be-released non-mini Guinea. I would enjoy building a camera plane with return to home and flight stabilization. Beginner mode seems that it would fit with David's "Swooshy" mantra about his tricopter when using it as a camera ship.

I put one of these on my Electrohub this weekend. I had to buy the deans version but I just made an xt60 to deans adapter (x2 see below). 2 gotchas that they don't mention in the video and I'm not sure about the article:

1. If you have a 5 volt camera and need to power it and the reciever from the Vector, you will need a servo Y-harness to get that done. No big deal but worth mentioning.
2. If your electrohub is already built, most likely you have everything powered via the center plates since they are PDB's. In that case you will need to connect the power harness that usually plugs into your battery into the 12v out on the Vector PSU. Again, not a big deal and maybe common sense to most but I was so focused on wiring everything up that I forgot that I needed to power my escs! Doh!

I haven't had a chance to do any flying more than hovering in my garage but so far I am super impressed!

I am new to all this but it seems like a really good system. I am thinking about using it on model airplanes.I want to know if this would work with the FPV Vapor system from Horizon or the full package from Hobby King. The Hobby King package I am referring to is the camera, video transmitter, video receiver, and video goggles. Do I need anything else?
