Twin Mustang - Based off the FT-Mustang - Plans

by LetsFlyRC | September 6, 2014 | (15) Posted in Projects

I loved the FT-Mustang so much that I wanted more.  It flew so great, straight lines, and awesome landings.  Why not twins.  I saw the FliteTest Facebook picture of theirs, that they haven't done a video on yet, and, well, here is mine.  I lengthened the ailerons, because, one thing I didn't like about the FT-Mustang, was the slow rolls.  Well, this version has NO PROBLEM with rolls.  It is super fun in "CRAZY MODE" or Differential Thrust as you will see in the video.  And, it still has all the wonderful qualities that the FT-Mustang had, with MORE POWER (Grunt, Grunt).

Electronics:

(2) 2212-10 suppo motors
(2) hobbyking plush 18A Escs
(2) 8x4 props
(2) 2200mah 3cell batteries wired in parallel (kinda) (one to each ESC)

FREE PLANS: Twin Mustang Plans - Dropbox

Here are some photos from my build:

And, thanks to FliteTest, I will have some future fun with this awesome plane, since it proved that it can carry a load with NO problem.

I went digging through all of my daughter's toys and found a few to play with.

DINO DROP.  I will post an article later on how to make a quick parachute from a grocery bag, some tape, rubber band, and some string.

Thanks, Yogenh. It is very similar to the regular mustang, I had the wrong plans linked, they are correct now. I will be doing a build video soon, unless FliteTest beats me to it.

Hey, buddy. I made a few changes to the twin spit. Keep an eye out for the upcoming article. (The landing gear is backwards on the initial plans, oops)

Sorry guys. I had the wrong plans linked.
I had the twin spitfire plans linked. They will be part of an article soon.
I updated the plans for the twin mustang, and the link should be proper now.

Thanks for all the great comments. As soon as my laser is up and running, I will put together a build video, and I will be selling speed build kits. Keep an eye on LetsFlyRC.com for the coming kits.

Awesome Video! I couldn't help but to notice the FT Flyer strapped into the back of your tuck. Fantastic to see the simpler planes still being flown by someone with your capabilities.

Haha. Yes. Thanks bud. That plane flys so well. It is fun to go back and fly the simpler stuff once you gain more ability. :)

Look up differential thrust videos on Flite Test - they have lots of videos explaining all that.

I don’t have the resources to explain it myself.

Thanks Brad, and Nick. I have a lot of fun with the Flyer, Nutball, and Old Speedster. They are great for small areas, and my daughter flies them with me. Wireless trainer feature of the dx9 is soooo great.

I may post an article soon on how I set up the diff thrust, with my setup, so others can try.

Yes, I would love to see your electronic setup. It's the one thing that has gotten me puzzled about this build. I was assuming it was close to the FT Cruiser setup.
