The Rocket Powered Flat Spin...

Our story begins with a secondhand airframe,

Bought for only $5; a project it became.

From spare electronics it was built,

To take to the air without shame and without guilt.

But fly well it not,

I no longer wanted what I had just bought.

So I decided a hero’s death was in order,
Only to be captured by my video recorder!
What crazy stunt should it perform?
It have would be something new and out of the norm.
Rocket motors I thought,

Would accelerate the plane to speeds it normally could not.

The end result is before you:
An internal firecracker was added before it flew.
A brushed esc was used to light the rocket,

And a cheap camera to record from the cockpit.

Its eventual demise came as a delight,

When the fuse for the right motor did not light.
In the end, it was all for fun,
and what’s best of all; the project didn’t cost a ton!

Nice video, and yes AMA will roast you about this, but once in a while and under controlled conditions, such as this one, fun and some insane testing should be allowed.
I am an old C/L F2C racer and an enthusiast of R/C for many years.
So I have to say, there is nothing so much dangerous than 3 F2C racers (FAI) flying in the same circle an it is allowed.
Keep up the good work.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Flite Test first?
An article in verse.
The AMA may complain.
But, he'd do it again.
(apologies)

Being that I'm not an AMA member, I choose to take the risks involved with strapping rockets to my planes into my own hands. I make sure the risks I do choose to take are calculated and previously tested so I can feel confident in my hardware and my piloting ability. If I were to crash while doing something like this and cause damage to someone else's property, I understand that's completely on me to pay up the for the damages. In short- I test everything (the rocket mounts, the ignition system on a DMM, radio equipment, everything...) and take any precautions necessary in order to minimize the chances of anything going wrong. When I can, I do follow the AMA guidelines, but everyone's gotta have a little fun every once and a while.
