The Micro Plane Project

One day I was thinking what to build next, and for some random reason this little thing came into my head. The little thing was a micro budget plane. I spent only about half an hour designing the shape of the plane and how it was going to look, but i am quite pleased with it. First of all I bought one sheet of 6mm balsa wood and one sheet of 2mm balsa wood. This only cost about £2.10. Next I bought some piano wire for 50p and some tiny foam wheels that I got for free. This was all of the material to build the plane its self, but now i needed electronics. I found a small rc glider on the market for £15.00 so I bought it. Now I just stripped it of it's electronics and stuck them into my micro plane. The rudder uses a proportional actuator to move, the throttle is driven by a fairly small brushed motor and this is all powered by a 3.7v li-po battery. Overall I ended up with a micro plane that flies fast and was no more than £17.60. Please leave feedback on what you think this plane is like and what I should call it.

Neat plane, and nice setup. This site is designed to encourage people, get them into the hobby, keep them in the hobby, expand their confidence and vision so they try, what is for them, something new. Your plane and design do that. Even a person with very limited money could probably come up with the material to try that design. Your next chalange is to make the hardware swapable and create a fleet of small balsa planes:) Maybe mount all the hardware on a balsa beam, the actuator at the end, driving the rudder from the bottom. Then you just drop a different frame on top of that.
