My collegiate themed Duster

I was watching football one week and solved a puzzle wreaking havoc on my brain.  What scheme am I going to use on the FT Duster.  I considered going with Dusty but then it hit me...a duster named after my favorite college team.  The scheme came together quite nicely and other corn maniacs appreciated it as well.  Now before you go bashing my team, you have to build a duster with your favorite team colors.  Then, I guess you earn the right.

I watched a FT tip on building wheels out of pop cans and insulating foam.  They not only work great but also look great.  Reminded me of LIndberg's Spirit of st. Louis.  I'm using the beef pack from lazertoyz.  I wasnt really impressed with my package.  It was smashed up and the fuselage and wings were bent badly.  So this plane was a scratch build using the bent pieces as templates.  The motor wasn't as powerful as I thought it would be.  Oh well.

I cheated on the decals.  I printed them out and covered the back in double sided tape.  They look really good.

After my first landing ripped out the landing gear slot and the second landing ripped off the bottom of the plane, I opted for the rubber band landing gear which work really well (adapted from the baby blender).  I used the team's nickname for orientation on the bottom of the plane and cut out vinyl for pinstrips on the sides and decoration on the bottom.  It doesn't fly like the baby blender, all floaty and stuff.   It tracks on rails, cuts deep and fast.  I need a little more throttle on landings than I usually use.  All in all a fun plane!

Nice, (I am a Penn State fan by the way), team themed plane. Way to represent. I am seeing a blue and white paint scheme in the future. In the last picture I see a horizontal piece just above the tail skid, I did not notice it in the other photos, is there an advantage to your design change?

Hey Hetrickm, no advantage to the skid addition. I had a problem with the skid tearing off so I mounted a piece above the skid and drilled a hole through it for the skid. Has worked well. You guys gotta post pics of your collegiate themed dusters. By the way I couldn't resist naming it the HUSKER DUSTER.
