The Baguette-copter ! - 2ma

Hi Flite Test world !

For my first project, I wanted to represent my country : France ! Most of the people think French people wearing a Béret, holding a baguette while playing accordion. Well, I've never worn a Béret nor played accordion.

Truth is : French people love Baguette ! (At least I do :) )

It is it ! Let's fly a Baguette copter !

I scanvenged 3 DT750s, 3 20 amps ESCs and the KK2.1.5 from my first tricopter (It flew over my house and smacked the asphalt, full of love, and at full speed). I just needed to order 1 more for each and 1030 slow fly props. I also brought The cheapest Baguette I could find (I will never waste good baguette :D ) and let them dried so they were hard enough to work with.

I just cut the Baguette with a little saw to have a nice cut and link them with a string.

Now I jus need to add the motors, the ESCs and the KK2.1.5 !

I also needed to flash the new ESC with SimoK firmware, as I did with the 3 older one but I don't know why I never maaged to... I just slapt it on like this, what could go wrong ?

Actually, it never took off. A part broke the under the motor because of vibration. I assume the baguette just scramble to easily.

I didn't give up and rebuild it using something that I use to play with when I was a kid. It's called "Pâte à sel". It's basically the same recipe as Baguette, but with a loooooot of salt. I think the English word is 'salt dough modelling' :

  • 1 cup flour (self-rising flour should not be used as it will cause the ornaments to bubble up while baking)
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/2 cup water (or more as needed)

You can just mix everything together, and cook it until it's hard ! I can take a long, long time. The Baguette copter V2 stayed almost 5 hours in the hoven !

When it was done, I just screw the motor in place, and connect everything together, again.

It's a lot heavier (1,5kg - 33lb) but also a lot stronger !  I just connect a 4s battery and let the -heavy- bread fly :)

I almost hit myself during the test, the controls were strange. Indeed, when I mounted the motors, I didn't chech if they were on a flat surface, and parrallele : they weren't !

But at least, it flew ! :D

Bye from Bonifator :)

If you're taking requests I'd like to see you do a bomb drop consisting of a beret filled with pomme frites set to an Edith Piaf song. Do that and your countrymen will have no choice but to crown you The Emperor Napoleon IV.

congratulations. you have to be the first person to ever post an article here about aircraft construction that also included the steps for "1 cup flour, 1/2 salt". PS i know what you fellow americans are all thinking but, don't do it. Our cheese can take the torque forces.
