Spitfire AeroAvia - Hand thrown glider with plans

Hi from Spain!

Here is a hand thrown glider for our sons and newcomers alike, helps a lot to learn building techniques, aerodynamics, doesn’t require a lot of space and above all…it’s fun. For those of you with access to a laser cut machine, download the 3 files, laser cut the airfoil, print and stick the adhesives, follow the assembling instructions and you’re done. Those without, print the decals, stick them to the foam (it’s up to you to remove or not the paper, I don’t know the type of foam you have in USA, anyway the lighter the better) and cut the airfoil with an Exacto. Here you find the step-by-step instructions. Good luck!

Ok, build finished. Took about 4 hours altogether to cut evryhing out and glue all decals and foamboard together. Here are a few mods I made for building with dollar tree 4mm board and other things i noticed. For fuselage to be as wide as original you need 3 pieces, however this is not necessary and I went for 2 pieces, this is a glider, keep it light. The top and bottom stickies, you may not want to use these as you will be gluing on some BBQ skewers to both top and bottom at the nose for ridgity. Also with the wing build it should be noted that the blue line is a 50% cut with a little beveling to glue at the angle properly. With that in mind install your wing stickers on after you installed the wing and I also had to slightly bevel where the wings joined at for proper dihaderal. And last note for dollar tree foam board builders, 27 grams is nose weight i added for level flight from an easy toss (think young kids toss).

These look cool but if you don't have a laser cutter how do you print the plans? Can you create the plans in a tiled pdf. Then we can print them, tape them together and then cut them out. Would be much appreciated.

You only need to put toghether the decals, by sticking them directly on foam. They are printable in A3 format, don't need a special printer. Then cut the airfoil with a cutter...

The decals are the same in shape and dimensions as the airfoil, they’re covering up all. Only need to align the two pieces of the fuselage.

Ok, kids are bored with it already, guess it needs electronics from the FT Delta or similar

I have already printed out both templates in standard FT build standards, using 100% and posterboard layout. it worked perfect. I plan on using either 3M spray adhesive or Loctite brand spray adhesive to stick the decals on with

Happy to hear that. But try to print directly on self-adhesive paper. You can find it everywhere (at least here in Europe). Cheaper than using sprays for sure.

Could you also please make the European color scheme available?

Thank you very much. I've been looking for something for my 8 year old Grandson. I think this will be great,
