Here's are the parts I am starting with: a wing and tail section from my old Sensei and the remains of another build that I will use as the print for my body.
I cut the XP apart so I can use the body as a template for the new plane.
Upper turtle deck and tail section removed:
I traced the shape on to new foam board:
Figuring in the tail section from the Sensei:
Let the cutting begin!!
Cutting up some bulkheads for the inner body support:
Here you can see some of the bulkheads in place:
Tail section mounted:
Here you can see I incorporate the old control lines from the sensei into the P51C:
Servo tray installed:
Wing support going into place:
Controls in place:
You can see the old glue on the control lines from the original plane:
Servos all mounted in and ready to be tested:
All centered and ready to go!
I think I can make it look like this!!
Tail skid going in place. I used some wire from Home Depot for holding up insulation for this, and I used it for my landing gear as well!!
Lower bulkheads:
Lower bulkheads in place:
Upper bulkheads in place:
I covered the bulkheads with construction paper:
I used the motor mount from an e-flight apprentice for the thrust angle:
Here you can see the body fully covered and ready for paint:
Here you can see the landing gear I bent from the insulation holders I got at Home Depot:
Driver canopy cut and in place:
Battery hatch showing space inside for extra battery:
I used olive green camo paint from Wal-Mart. It took a lot of light coats to cover everything but the finish was nice and it didn't bother the foam at all!!
Getting the graphics applied for these. I printed the images on paper then cut them out and used clear tape to apply them.
Ready for its maiden!
