well here it is, project kadet this plane was rescued from a house demolition by a friend of mine who thought i might be intrested in doing a resto without seeing the plane or even knowing what it was i said sure! when i picked the plane up it was out side had snow in it and had been rained on! it wasn't looking to good but i realized what kind of plane it was and i was in, so this is my first attempt at monokote an my first gasser a little out of my foam realm but i am willing to give it a shot!! ( dont mind the time an date they are not correct)
the plane was in rough shape as you can see and the mice had moved in an taken up residence
man this is bad!! but i am comitted to this and i have no intentions of walking away!!
ok so we got the motor an fuel tank out now i can do some serious cleaning!!
quickest way to get the mice nest an insulation out!!
i cant believe it filled the vacum up there was so much inside!! the entire nose was full you couldnt even see the fuel tank!
old monokote of and all cleaned out an ready for the resto to begin!!
i removed the old electronics but left the controls as they were still functional
inside view after some paint to cover the old mice stains
after some cleaning and new connectors i put the old servos back in the plan is to keep as much of the original that i can i am useing a tactic long range reciever instead of the old fm one that was in the plane
testing the servos to make sure all is good here you can see the tail i left the original color on it as a tribute to the original builder of this plane im not positive but i don't think it was ever flown i am looking into tracking down the original builder
ok here we go!! gonna try my hand at doing some monokote! i watched a couple videos and did some on line study of the process and i think im ready to do this!
ok so i think i might have this, not to bad just take your time
body covered an some graphics applied!!lookin pretty sweet for my first resto project im getting excited to fly it now
now for the wing! not only was the coating bad it had water inside of it as well!! not good!
bottom was in good shape an with a little heat it looks like new!
here you can see the wet balsa i was a little worried about this! fear it might warp when it dried out
after removeing the old monokote i had to dry alot of the parts inside because of all the water that was in it i placed the wing beside a hot air funace proping the wing so it would retain it's shape
spar supports all glued back into place first i needed to place them between two boards an dry them all
covering the wing first side done now for the second
getting the second side fitted an cut for application
all finished ready for some graphics!
i did the yellow because it tied in with the original yellow on the bottom and it stands out nicely against the white!!
graphics are yellow packing tape and a black sharpie
here you can see the old fuel tank and whats left of the fuel from long ago its no longer liquid!! i ordered the new tank from tower hobbies i also had to change the tank stopper as the one supplied with the tank does not work if useing gas, nor does the supplied tubeing both need to be replaced when useing gas
was gonna try an reuse the original motor i came to the conclusion that it wasnt worth the effort
so i replaced the original with one of these! its a evo 10gx gasoline motor that i purchased from horizon hobby firgured i would go gas because of the cost savings compared to nitro gas is way cheaper!! i was gonna do electric but at the price it was more economical to go this path instead motor was only $199 free shipping!
new motor and fuel cell installed time to close it up!
nice an clean!
cowl replaced an ready for covering this all had to be removed to clean out the mice nest and the old fuel system
last part of the monokote applied and muffler on one more thing to add
now it's ready for a maiden!!
