Quanum FPV Goggle Strap Upgrade

Hey it's Lee from AudaciousRC!

Quanum FPV Goggles are kind of like the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree. They don't look like much and they're real cheap, but if you put a bit of love into them they can become something real nice. After a long time struggling with the weak and uncomfortable head strap mount that comes with the kit, I finally was inspired to modify it to be better fitting and more sturdy. I had heard of people using a baseball cap or something like that to attach to the goggles, but I felt like that would be a little too involved. I was looking at the new Headplay HD goggles, which I was thinking about buying, and I saw that they used what was essentially a GoPro Headstrap mount. I own one of these mounts, so today I decided I would hack it to fit my goggles. I know that this may be a pretty simple build, and most of you could probably figure it out yourself, but I hope this article can give a little inspiration for those that are struggling with their Quanum Goggles. By the way this is referring to the V1 Quanum Goggles, the new V2 goggles are much nicer and have a better strap built in. I would highly recommend buying them as your first pair of goggles.

Without further ado, here's how to do it:

The first thing you'll want to do is remove the horizontal strap by feeding the loop through the gap (seen on the right side of the picture) and cutting off the other fixed loop (seen on the left side of the picture. After this is cut off you can remove the front piece from the strap (This piece is the one that holds the GoPro, we'll keep this piece for our assembly) Next you'll need to cut the vertical strap from the back piece, right at fixed loop.

You should now have two straps, one vertical strap with an adjustable loop and the mount piece, and a horizontal strap with an adjustable loop.

Next you need to remove the old quanum strap, and widen the slot a little bit so it can fit the bigger strap.

Cut out the slot at the top of the goggles.

Unloop the horizontal strap (the longer piece) from it's adjustment clip

Feed the end of the strap through the goggles, making sure that the gummy part is on the inside.

Feed the strap back through the adjustment clip.

Feed the strap through the back piece.

Put on the goggles and see how much you need to cut off.

Cut it off...

Put a bit of hot glue in the slot.

Push the strap into the slot, I find it easy if you use the unsharp end of a blade, or a credit card.

Do the same thing for the top strap: Cut it to length, glue it, and push it in.

If you feel like you need it, you drive in the little screws that came with the kit to ensure a strong connection.

Use the adjustment clips to fit it to your head and BOOM! You just made a comfortable, fully adjustable head strap for your quanum fpv goggles! Now they'll never fall of your face and make you look like more of a dork than they do when they're on your face! (It's okay, I can say that because that's what I look like when I wear them)

Thanks, hope you learned something from this article! Comment any suggestions you have for making these goggles more bearable!
