Q: Can Tricopters swim? A: No....

Yesterday I decided to push my luck and go film at some waterfalls near me. I had in my head David W's Running Waters (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=421GwUkqB7g) FPV video, and wanted to try something similar with my Tricopter. Something was telling me it was a bad idea and that I wasnt good enough yet, but I didnt listen. I should have.

This was only my 3rd FPV flight so I was still getting the hang of flying just by the monitor, but I still keep looking up which is one of the reasons this accident happened.

Ended up upside down in the water after a stupid moment, so the tricopter is going to be out of action for a while for a rebuild! Still, lesson learnt, and more practice required!

So for any other new people just getting into FPV, if something is telling you you are trying things above your skill level, then you probably are. I'm not saying that should stop you though, it certainly still wont stop me trying again! :D

I now have the task of rebuilding the tricopter, so looking forward to neatening everything up, since my first build was a bit experimental in terms of being new ground for me.

Thanks to the Flite Test team for continual inspiration and for the build plans, if it wasnt for you guys I wouldnt be having so much fun with this hobby! :D

Hi,

Great Video.

Are you flying with a club? I'm just getting into Tricopters and live very close by to where you shot this. I didn't realise that this aspect of the hobby had a following in Scotland. I'm keen to get some FPV gear, what are you using?

Thanks, Alan

Hey Alan, no I don't fly with a club, think there are a few around but most seem to be focused on fixed wing and nitro powered stuff! I just fly with a few friends from work normally!

Gear wise for FPV I've got a Gopro hero2 as the camera, and just use the Boscam 5.8GHz video transmitter and receiver. Works pretty well with upgraded antennas! Just got into it recently though so still learning! :)

Theres a good community for UK stuff over at fpvhub.com, with a few other Scottish members from the central belt! Hoping to get to a meet soon.

Great.

Hopefully my Tri will be up and running in a few days. Looking for FPV gear soon but split between getting Boscam or Fatshark goggles or going with just an LCD screen.

I'll sign up for fpvhub. It would be great to meet up with some people that actually know what they're doing, haha.

Thanks Alan.

Thanks! :D

It's a Boscam 200mW 5.8Ghz video Tx, with a skew planar wheel antenna!

Yeah, its actually turned out not as bad as I thought as well, the KK2 has come back to life, must have still been a bit wet when I tried it out the first time! I also tried the Video Tx again and it seems to work fine as well! So came off not too badly damage wise, think I was lucky!
