Power Pod Brackets

If you fly like I fly, a little tougher PowerPod would be a good thing... here's a try building one! The two brackets weigh about 5-6 grams together and the epoxy another gram or two. They probably push the total weight of a well-covered PowerPod from about 28-29 grams up to about 35 grams.

You can build an almost exact relica (mine ended up 2 1/16th inches wide instead of 2 ") of the foamboard PowerPod  shell from 4mm. coroplast, but that is going to add about 15 grams more than just foamboard (from 11 grams to about 26 grams). You will save the weight of the tape as the tape wouldn't add any strength to coroplast which is already bulldog tough.

I may experiment with both.

I too an very hard on powerpods - they concertina backwards in a crash which can alter the thrust angle, so this looks like I will try.

What I find is that the skewers aren't really strong enough and when they snap off flush with the end of the foam, you can't get them out to replace them, so I use bits of carbon fibre rod and that seems much more resiliant.

a crumpled plane means it absorb the shock, so my motors doesn't break, bend or what ever..
But since HK is sooo cheap, I hardly make powerpods anymore.

But the Idea looks good. I'm sure my dads needs to start making his out of Coro

I'll try carbon fiber instead of skewers in the front... I have always picked slimmer skewers simply because they fit more easily into the motor mount holes but you are right , slimmer is weaker and breaks more easily.

Very nice idea. Those cards will add a lot of strength to the pod and make it less resistant to crushing from nose first impacts.
