So i have been following flitetest for a while now, still remember when there videos were sponsored by hobbyking. so flitetest has had a large influence over my choices in model for quite some time, I actually have built 3 FT kits and believe me cutting out those pieces of paper is a pain! my first attempt at building a multi rotor was pretty frustrating, hobbyking managed to get my parts lost and refused to refund me but fortunately I had made use of PayPal and I was refunded be it 2 months after I laid the claim and 3 months after I paid for the package. So low on funds my next idea was a mini quad thinking it would be cheaper than a full scale quad, turns out it is almost the same price and u have a much smaller selection of motors and esc's, and you can carry far less camera gear. None the less I ended up buying a hk 250 kit, this proved to be very under powered with 5x3 props and if i attached FPV gear it would struggle to even take off all together.
Never the less the bug had bitten me, few months later when I had more funds available i proceeded to order the ZMR carbon frame off ebay and some better motors, along with a mobius from HK. this had greatly increased how high fast and the amount of fun I could have with the mini quad. the mobius also allowed me to go back and show people how truly amazing the views were and relive the thrills, weeks after I recorded my first flight i had the idea to upload it to youtube.
My videos have gotten a lot better from simply uploading clips straight off the mobuis to edited videos at beautiful sunrises over the beach. Here are some photos of the latest video I uploaded onto youtube.
as i put the Quad down
flying over water for the first time I was a little apprehensive to say the least.
This is a pretty spectacular photo of me and my friend sitting on the sand dune with the sun rising over the Indian Ocean.
I punch out once to just get a different perspective of the small coastal town of Port Alfred.
Next I face the quad straight down and dove back down.
Just another breath taking view of the sunrise with the waves rolling in, you can see the clouds that are starting to role in and make the last half the video a little darker.
It’s always nerve racking knowing you haven't crashed and u can’t mess it up on the landing.
A nice photo of my friend and I just as I’m about to touch down from what will properly remain one of the most breath taking FPV experiences I will ever have.
Sadly later that day I decided to film my dad driving his boat up and down a small stretch of the river, I’m not sure what went wrong but I did know that my motors and esc's would get out of timing and a motor would cut out for a fraction of a second at a time, unfortunately I was too close to the water and I lost all video signal and my heart sand as the realisation that I just lost my quad sunk in. My friend and I scoured the river for hours but to no avail the quad was lost, I knew the electronics were a loss but the idea of at least salvaging the footage from the memory card would have been amazing to have.
the last photo of my quad
There was however a silver lining in this all my father was really impressed with what I was able to do with the quad that he offered to sponsor a new quad with the provision that I never to fly over water again without at least something to keep the quad a float of something dose go wrong again. My new Quad should be here in the next few days and I can’t wait to get started on new FPV adventures and upload more videos.
I would really appreciate the support of the flitetest community if people would subscribe to my channel and be notified whenever I upload a new video.
