I have a passion now thanks to Flite test in designing and building planes out of foam board. My wife actualy says it's an obsession.( nah just a passion). My rc builds have been so far the FT flyer, the FT delta (crash and burned) the Baby Blender ( another crash and burn ? ) and the spitfire. Still have the spit and flyer.
My first attempt at design build was the DELFER (See Article DELFER)
My 2nd is a Curtiss Jenny.
Designed as a trainer for the U.S. Army Air Service, the Curtiss JN-4 first flew in 1916. Known popularly as the "Jenny," the JN-4 taught thousands of Allied pilots to fly during World War I. After the war, surplus Jennys were widely used for "barnstorming"-traveling air shows-and they opened the first scheduled air mail service.
The JN-4D featured a 90-horsepower Curtiss OX-5 engine. The Army ordered Curtiss to convert six JN-4Ds for the U.S. Air Mail Service by installing a larger 150-horsepower Hispano-Suiza engine and a mail compartment. These airplanes were redesignated as JN-4Hs.
My maiden flight was quite interesting as it did loop after loop after loop. (Tail heavy ya think)
Next attempt was much nicer as I used a 2200 battery and the added weight helped ' She flew quite nice looked great in the sky . I didn't do any stunts not enough power to do a nice clean loop just some simple scale flying .
I used the following specs
Motor EMAX XA2212 980KV
Prop 9 x 4.5
30 amp esc
9 gram servos
I did make up some plans that can be available in tiled format pdf if requested
I used 1/4" dowels and sanded them down to shape for the wing supports
Note the golf tees classic design
Ready for the maiden
JENNY PLANS tiled format pdf Golf tee design not included :)
These plans are my 2nd attempt at creating so be aware they may not be perfect. How ever I did make this plane using them
