Mobius Action Cam Review

by StoneBlueAirlines | January 3, 2014 | (7) Posted in Reviews

I love this little camera and it really is one heck of a deal for the price.
This little action camera is perfect for capturing a fpv flight.
With its low cost and great quality its a winner in my book.

Great review! I've been looking for a good quality camera that's cheaper than a GoPro. :)

I really think the Mobius is going to be a game changer in RC. With the size (weight), and video quality, I expect to see more "designed for Mobius" accessories like mini-gimbals and such.

Now if Josh and David can properly mount their last remaining Mobius so it doesn't get knocked off, we might see some Mobius footage from them as well.

Haha saw that they crashed one already. I have also done the same.

Thank you for comparing it to the keychain; I've been wondering which would be better and I think I will look more into the Mobius.

Nice review. Bruce at rcmodelreviews on youtube loves it as well. It was even one of his top two RC gadgets for 2013.

The video quality looks superb for $80. And that may be enough for my to grab one. I had the Foxtech V3 and loved it, but lost it in deep woods last summer along with a quad.

My issue is it's only 30FPS@1080P. That frame rate during fast angular swings of the cam gives a fairly harsh jerkiness that 1080P@60 doesn't have, such as the GoPro Black Edition. I know, I know, $85 vs $400 ... what can I expect? But 'budget' 1080P@30 have been out well over a year now. I'm really hoping someone will release a sub $100 1080P@60FPS soon. Until then, the Mobius may be the way to go.

It might happen with an update but for now i mostly shoot in 720/60 it just works well and really for youtube 720p is just fine. The quality is great for the price. Thanks for the watching and the comment.

I don't think so but have not tested it that way.

Yes it could! The voltage input to the Mobius must be 5v no more. If you want external power I would use a bec with a 5v output. That is what I have been using with my Mobius and it has been working perfectly.

Just a note for you guys, memory cards can somehow be ejected from the mobius upon crashing. I just lost an sd card from what I thought was a mild crash into a post... I'm not sure what I'm going to do in the future to stop ejections, but I am going to paint my sd cards a bright color so they will be more visible in grass...

Just put tape over the opening that works well.

I use one on a DJI Phantom. I particularly like using it for timed stills, about one every 3 seconds, which after severe editing I turn into little slide shows and post onto YouTube, like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ami9USuMkAE Frankly, I think that it is a lot easier to produce an artistic result using aerial stills than with bumpy video. I do see a GoPro and Gimbal in my future, maybe next year.
