After the 1st part of modding my Taranis X9D Plus, I went ahead and ordered a hydrodipped shell.
I haven't tried to hydrodip myself and I don't currently have the time to familiarize with the techniques required for a good result. So a ready-made shell was the next best option. This also leaves me with the stock shell for future experimentation (painting, DIY hydrodipping etc).
Removing the stock shell and transferring the internals into the new one is pretty much straight forward. Just take your time, as well as a few photos during the disassembly, so that you easily figure out what goes where.
The end result looks great and I already have in mind some more things that will follow.
I also added a small twist..(literally).. Since I am not using an external Tx module, I decided to install the transmitter handle backwards. This results in a sleeker look and a lower profile overall, perfect for transmitter cases (I also add gimbal stick protectors when I pack it in a case).

The shell for the Taranis was purchased already hydrodipped and ready to be installed. You can check it here, along with a few other designs: https://goo.gl/unYc8a

Just a few things to be careful about:
- Move all the switches to the same position (up or down, whichever you want) before disassembly. This way you will re-install them correctly and not upside down.
- Remove the gimbal sticks, so that you can work without worrying much about them. The front of the transmitter can rest on the balancer while you are working on the back side.
- Take a few photos during the process, especially when removing cable plugs or other things that you think will confuse you later.
- Use some glue to secure the LED and the display side buttons in place, when re-installing them.
That's all!
Enjoy :)
