Heli Safety - TIPS

Bill Blair from whirlybirdvideo.com is back to show us how to properly set up your heli. These steps will ensure that your flight experience will be fun and SAFE!

1. Turn on your transmitter and make sure to select the correct model type.

2. Flip your throttle hold switch. Throttle hold reduces your throttle to 0% and holds it. This ensures that no matter what happens to the throttle stick the heli won't spin up on you.

3. When hooking up your battery, get a good grip on the blades. For whatever reason, if the blades start to spin you can easily prevent them from doing so. It's much easier to over power the blades before they start spinning than to try and deal with it while they are spinning. NEVER attempt to grab blades while they are already in motion.

4. Watch for the initialization of your flybarless system. Depending on which system you have, the swash, tail, or both will initialize. It is important to make sure the helicopter does not move during this step. If the heli is at an angle or disturbed during the initialization, the flight characteristics won't be correct.

5. Lastly, move the tail back and forth to ensure the tail rotor is correcting in the right direction.

Once everything is looking good, slap on your nose and you're ready to fly!

A huge thank you to Bill Blair for coming to vist, and if you want to see more from him check out whirlybirdvideo.com.

The hold switch should be used in all RC, nothing worse than hitting the throttle switch accidentally... I make use of throttle curves so after a landing I have to hold or kill the throttle.
