Halloween witch

This is a simple project that just looks cool for the season. I have no plans just a freehand drawn witch with a 20" diameter hat brim (wing). If you cant "freehand" your own witch there are patterns online you can download and use ( any witch will do) lol. I used a couple zip ties and hot glue to secure the witch to a carbon fiber arrow I got cheap at a local department store. I also cut two triangles for the tail and slotted them together after cutting my control surfaces. Those are also zip-tied and glued.

The rest of it was just trying to get most of the electronics as far forward as the cables would allow for correct CG. But I found the best CG is about 1/3 way back from the leading edge or about 6". Move to about 7" if you wanna do more high alpha slow-fly or indoor. Its really light and the wind has a big effect on it that can be countered a bit with more forward CG. I used the zip ties to secure her on first, that way I could slide her back and forth to get the CG close enough to be able to adjust it with the battery pack. Then put the glue to her.

One IMPORTANT thing I forgot;

there is a bamboo skewer threaded (through the faom in between the paper) into the bottom of her hair line on the trailing edge up into her hat 2" past the brim for a strengthening spar, otherwise her head gets all floppy. It takes some drilling to get it all in there but it works good and is completly hidden.

My motor is mounted with a simple hose clamp (its what I had on hand) there are many ways to do this depending on your motor.

So in recap simple easy build,3 channel control

The elctronics I used

motor----2822 28kv gforce

battery--3s 1000mh (would probly be fine with a 2s but mine are burnt up)

ESC---  20 amp

servo--- 9 gram x2

prop-- 3 blade 7x3.5

body -- standard carbon fiber arrow shaft

1 sheet of adams faom board

And now I'm thinking bigger the arrow shafts have an internal thread to accept the tip, but im thinking a small stud and I could join 2 together. Im already getting requests for Christmas so any ideas you have post em up and see what I come up with next !

You should consider entering the "Make it Fly" competition going on on the forum for Christmas.

Pretty cool, I remember seeing this same thing from one of the model mags in the 50's or 60's. It was control line operated, had landing gear and was 1/2A powered.. Of course it was all balsa, we didn't have $tree foam back then. There is also a flying Santa with his reindeer for control line out there and Christmas is coming, Maybe someone will step up with a R/C design for that too. Really miss the days the old mags featured a build or two each month, if you flew, you built, kit or scratch.. Thank goodness for FliteTest.

Good stuff checker. I did something similar last year with the guts from my Parkzone UM Cub. This year I did it swappable style (http://forum.flitetest.com/showthread.php?3365-Swappable-fleet-on-the-way). I flew it this morning before work and at lunch. Should be a kick tonight once the sun starts disappearing.

Cheers!
