Great Flying Field Equipment Box For Under $40

-This is a very safe way to transport and store your expensive transmitter, and all your LiPo’s and charger, tools and other equipment.

-First thing you will need is an Aluminum briefcase with die cut foam inserts -$30 at Menards

-Second thing is a roll of Sill Seal, (it can be found in building materials section) Also at Menards -$4

-THAT’S IT!

- Next step: Position all your electronics in the most efficient way into the box, so you can fit the maximum amount of your STUFF into it, leaving about 2-3 squares on foam in between everything. Ensure a snug fit and make sure nothing is loose, as you can see I had to add a row of foam back in because the pocket I cut was too loose to hold my charger.

 - Put in all of your electronics after you have pulled out or cut your pockets.

 - The one I got also came with a tool pouch, It works great for holding props and cords too.

- Using the roll of Sill Seal, cut 3 strips or as many as you need to span the with of the case to line the top of all of your electronics and hot glue the edges together.  Punch holes for your transmitter’s control sticks and switches.

- After that, using the scrap foam you pulled from your pockets, cover up the sticks and switches to protect them when you close the box, also put a taller section of foam in the center to keep a space between the top and bottom of the case while it’s closed.

- That’s it!

-A very cheap and effective way to transport your valuable RC equipment between the field and your workbench, or just for storage.  Have fun flying!

Here is a link to order the case online if you cant find it at any local stores.

Very nice idea. I did almost exactly the same except I got mine from Harbor Freight. The one there came with the cut out foam and the tool holder but also had the "egg crate" foam that you could put in front of the tools and protect your sticks and switches without having to manually put them on each time. Looks identical in every other way and I think it was about the same price too. Thanks for sharing!

Great article and nice pictures! I too put something very similar together and got my box from Harbor Freight. I've got a link in my article to 20% off your purchase. http://flitetest.com/articles/padded-aluminum-flight-case I like the clean lines you have in your case a bit better than mine. May have to make a few modifications to mine thanks to your article :-)

I have the larger ones, three of them now and began doing this back in 2009. Posted all about it on RCPowers...but I guess what is old is new again..

The idea is cost effectiveness, hence "under $40"

How did you cut the foam? Every time I cut foam like that it tears everything up.

Its die-cut foam, its a bunch of pre-cur squares you just pull out.
