Fun foam board projects with your kids!

by Battershell | May 11, 2013 | (14) Posted in Just Fun

Rainy afternoons can be fun if your kids have patience. Here is the result of about 4 hours and my daughters wishes to build something with foam board and hot glue that does not fly.

Here is a close up of the Samsung TV. Printed on photo paper and glued to foam board for realism.

Couch complete with cushions.

We went the extra mile and made miniture pictures with frames

And here is a display case I built for my daughter to show off her project at school.

I hope you liked the ideas.

This is great. Now put wings on it... ;)

Actually, for your next foam project you could build a foam plane for the characters to ride in.

Yes I know it would is overkill. But I believe if you are going to do something. Do it well!
What sucks is my daughter already has a Barbie dream house with the elevator and she still wanted me to make this project.

Now, This has nothing to do with flight at all. This is Flite Test. And a doll house aint got nothing to do on this website dude. Dollar 3 foam board does not equal RC Plane...

I think the real reason for this website is passion and sharing information. Albeit the information is mainly flight related. I think if you love doing something, like r/c plane building, you can tend to neglect other areas of your life. I think this article is an awesome way to give back to your family so that they can be happier with your addiction. Its pretty funny, I was at work today and had this awesome idea that I wanted to try. I came home and to my surprise my idea has come to life right here on flight test. Great minds think alike bro. I have a daughter and a son. The planes are just the coolest thing in the world to my little boy and my little girl could care less. He loves building planes with me and he is only 3 s he gets gliders right now. Try building a plane with my daughter and the plane and the project wont fly with her. I applaud your manliness for posting a girly doll house, you are indeed a dad. I really want to start a project with my daughter and will post for everyone. I know how it is. If the wife and kids arent happy, daddy doesnt get to fly, at least not as much. So I say this is the perfect rc plane article to keeps us dads flying.

I agree with jupakos79. This is great! I had to show it to my wife. I will be starting a project like this with my daughter as well. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I think this is great as well....especially being that I have little kids that love to build all kinds of things with the foam board scraps! There are lots of articles on this site that I have no interest in, so I just don't open them. If something isn't interesting to you...rather than complaining about it, just move on to the next article that is.

I am 100% sure you don't have any kids.
For those of us who do I think we think this is great! He put it under "fun" using foam left overs from making planes I am sure this is great way to improve your cutting skills.
It is also a great way to bond with your kids today a doll house.. Tomorrow she may want to make Barbie FT.
It's a great way to show kids you don't have to buy everything you can make it yourself.
I started my kid building robots at 6 balsa planes at 7 quads at 8 you can check out the video on my link. Plus I am sure it makes the wife happy that you can make other things besides planes... So the next time you buy foam board she will not grunt but smile.

Bjarkix2 I like the articles you wrote as you know it takes a lot of time to take pictures edit them, write, upload, then post. Battershell nice job!

She will learn the finer arts of foam board cutting and glueing this way I hope. Then on to flying.

hey guys! Rate this if you would do this for your daughters that were only 7 years old and didn't understand flight yet. Please? In my eyes bonding is still bonding with the gifts Flitetest has given me. So I give back to my child as I can.

I like your post. It does fit in and im certain that given your attention to detail and modeling skills that you could motorize this, mount a go pro, and fly fpv with it just to silence the haters :)

I gotcha! Give me a few days to a week or so. I have to come up game plan. Wings, wiring, simple balance and flight dynamics. Then I will video what I am capable of. Regardless if it flies well or not. I feel I have been challenged and I need to address this matter. I will see if my daughter will be interested in aiding me as well. There will be video!

I think there should be requirements for posting on FliteTest.
It should have something to do with building and flying something RC related.

I have to say that i love it. and here is how it relates to flying... at my house flying is sometimes frowned upon... i frequently hear about how building my airplanes is not spending time with my wife and kid. and i know that i should probably spend more time with them but i have just too much fun flying and building. - now if i can get my daughter to endorse building something then my wife is 110% happier to let us do whatever. - so if building a doll house today will let me build a plane tomorrow with her then i'm happy my kid is happy and my wife is happy. this is a totally great article and i will probably go do this soon! so dont bash just cuz it cant fly. - its helping kids learn about artistically creating things with their imagination.

Perhaps the house could be modified into an airplane hangar. Would that make everyone happy?
