Full contact FPV combat

l connectionund at A few weeks ago I brought a little FPV swift out to the weekly full contact combat. Every Thursday in Sacramento along i5 there's a giant night time, full contact batttle royal. With up to 20 small combat wings in the air at once all lit by LED, we try and hit each other or intimitate eachother into crashing. Most pilots use the Crash Test Hobbies assassin, but others just build there own. These are real dogfights, at speeds near 90mph, at night.

So I brought my little swift out there and found an easy target before the sun went down, a large scratch built styrofoam tri-motor mohemouth of a wing. After a few tries I actually managed to take him down, with myself in the process. Most of the time I was just trying to keep up while he flew a pattern, but when he slowed down I was there for the hit.

Results:

Broken prop, three prop cuts in the top of the foam

enjoy

2.4ghz control

5.8ghz video (boscom)

sony wdr camera

slow crappy motor

two crappy servos

Hey this is great. I floated this exact idea amongst a few mates using the Mugi design as we have endless access to corflute from our local bottle shop. The lads are hesitant as they are new to the hobby and are novice in scratch building. I even floated a point score system to get the lads together and on board without success. Maybe we could even try to get a us vs aus thing going on..
Hey good on you mate and keep up the good work, be sure to post up more vids of future battle wing meets.

Cheers

Paul

Hey thanks for opening up my eyes to Crash Test Hobby (http://www.crashtesthobby.com/). By reading your article here I just learned about them. Never heard of them before. What a fantastic company! He (Lee) has super good advice too (http://www.crashtesthobby.com/my-advice-to-beginners.html). I'm an experienced flyer and I've never read advice from an experienced guy that I agree with as much as I agree with his. Anyway, I didn't know about these guys before but obviously they sell great equipment and recommend good, economical products that I'm familiar with (HobbyKing, rctimer, amazon, etc). I like that. Thanks for your article.

Thanks for sharing.

On a side note, I learned a new technique at the crashtesthobby website, under the tips page. I would never have thought of mounting my soldering pen and having both hands free to manipulate the parts to solder. Awesome tip!
