FT Flyer - doubles as a bird for my dog to chase!

by fretsman | October 17, 2013 | (0) Posted in Just Fun

Here is a quick video of my dog, a Visla name Luke Skywalker, chasing my FT Flyer around. I put a streamer on it to give him something to chase and he loves it.

He is a very high energy dog and needs plenty of exercise. He loves to run and adding something for him to chase around is icing on the cake. I get to fly and he gets all the exercise he needs. Good times...

Please keep in mind that Luke is trained and very obedient. I have been training him since he was a puppy and he follows my commands very well. I would never allow him to do this otherwise. He never wants to bite the plane. All he does it chase it. Once it is on the ground he sits next to it and looks at me as if saying "Hey, make this bird fly again so I can chase it". He is my best friend and his safety and well being are very important to me.

Never attempt this with an untrained dog. SAFETY FIRST!

Its a good way to make him do exercise! lol Nice.Plus you can hear the dog NEVER BARK! so that might mean that he is not against your FT-Flyer!
Good luck and fly safe!

My dog use to do the same. He use to go nuts at the field. If he was lazy sleeping, and see me pack in the planes he run and climb into the car and not move..

Not every field is dog and models friendly..

Luke is the same way. The minute he see's me grabbing my gear to go fly he runs to the door and sits there waiting for me.

The field where I fly is small park that is not to far from my house. I think I am the only one that ever flies there. I have never seen anyone else flying but people do bring dogs. It is kind of cool to have the air space to myself but sometimes I wish other people were there flying just for the interaction and to make it more interesting.

I don't think I would let Luke chase the plane at a crowded air field anyway. I would worry that another plane could hit him by accident. Like I said before, he is my best buddy and making sure he is safe comes first.

Thanks for the reply!

I too have a vizsla named Kimber and she LOVES anything that will fly........ A little too much some times.... I have had her reach up and snag my Nutball more than once. (that sounds bad. Haha) about a month ago I was flying my VisionAire in my yard and my wife let the dogs out........ Bad move. Kimber came running full bore at the plane as I was attempting to get it on the ground and to avoid hitting her I foolishly thought I would go around for another pass so my wife could call the dogs inside..... Big mistake. Kimber jumped into the air in front of the plane before I got it up high enough and even with chopping the throttle I caught her on her side. Luckily a few stitches fixed her right up but needless to say......the vet was not very impressed with antics. Lesson learned there. Just glad she was not seriously injured. :)
