The precision of the laser cutting, and the creative design alone are worth the price of the kit! Flite Test shuns the use of carbon fiber spars and uses brilliant "monocoque" design, using multiple tubes of paper-backed foam to create incredibly strong, light and low-cost airframes. The Flerken is a new design and while those of us who remember the Grumman X-29 look at any forward swept design with fear of being completely unstable, the Flerken's careful design allows it to fly slowly and quickly with few bad habits.
The packaging of the Flerken is also state-of-the art, with CAD designed efficient use of foam board and control rods, motor mount and control horns all included and packaged beautifully in a small package.
If you haven't built a kit with only video instruction, this is a good one to investigate. Josh Bixler's videos are informative to newcomers and master builders. It's obvious Josh has been building for years as his commentary always includes comments like, "use soft hands" or, "let gravity be your friend". With about 56 years' experience building model airplanes, it's a pleasure listening to Josh's calm and confident voice. And, when I watched in disbelief how he was bending foam, I gained confidence to copy what he was doing because of the way he presents the entire build.
